Good Morning Britain star Alex Beresford has left his role at ITV West Country after 17 years.
The meteorologist, 40, has been presenting the weather forecast across the South West for almost two decades alongside his role on the ITV breakfast show.
However, he will now take on a new position with the national ITV news team.
Speaking to ITV, Alex explained: “It’s been over a decade since I’ve been working across the region and it’s been the most amazing time
“It’s been a special part of my life and I’m going to miss it. I’m a Bristol boy through and through.
“The West Country is an amazing place to work. I’d never been to Cornwall before I started working at ITV West Country and I got to explore one of the best parts of the world in my opinion.”
It comes after almost a year after he clashed with GMB host Piers Morgan live on air.
The explosive TV moment led to Piers’ exit from the breakfast show in March 2021.
Alex took to Twitter with a statement at the time which revealed his thoughts on the fiery situation.
He wrote: “There is so much that could be said. Piers’ departure sincerely wasn’t the conclusion I was hoping for.
“Over the last few years, Piers and I have had a lively, cheeky on-air relationship.
“We both wanted to be on the show Tuesday morning, and from our very public conversations on Twitter, we both knew how strongly our opinions differed on the treatment of Harry and Meghan pre and post the interview that has split the world.”
He added: “I hoped we could reach a place of understanding.
“It’s sad that we weren’t able to get there, but challenging his opinion was not an outrage. On this occasion, we have to agree to disagree.”
Alex said: “I didn’t want him to quit, but I did want him to listen.”
He finished: “Personally, Piers has always supported my growth. He’s given me advice on several occasions and for that I am grateful.
