Disney fans have grown confused over the studio’s new lead actress after The Little Mermaid’s trailer was recently released.
Fans mistakenly thought that actress Halle Berry was starring in Disney’s new adaptation of The Little Mermaid.
The live-action Hollywood film features Grammy award-winner Halle Bailey – who performs alongside her sister Chloe as a duo – not actress Halle Berry, known for her roles in Catwoman and X-Men.

Disney has just released the teaser for the live-action remake of their classic film, which was released in 1989, and is set to star Bailey, Melissa McCarthy, Awkwafina and Simone Ashley, known for her roles in Bridgerton and Sex Education.
It seems excited Disney fans have made a critical error and one fan began to critique the casting choice without double checking who was on the line-up.
One fan tweeted out: “Halle Berry is nearly 60 playing the role of a 16-year-old girl.”
Berry replied with a meme of comedian Monique sitting down and looking unimpressed.
The tweet has since been deleted but more mistaken fans have sent out similar messages about the casting.
Another wrote in all-caps: “Halle Berry is Ariel, suck on that.”
A fellow confused follower tweeted that they “hope the live-action remake is good” because “Halle Berry as Ariel is gorgeous”, while another simply added that the thought of Berry playing Ariel gave them “chills”.
This isn’t the first time that Berry has been mistaken for the film’s lead actress as back in December a confused fan tweeted to her and said they “can’t wait to see her ‘under the sea’”.
She responded with: “…wrong Halle, lol. I can’t wait to see her too, though!”
Bailey is set to become a household name after her appearance as Ariel, but she is already a star and has received five Grammy award nominations.
She is part of musical duo Chloe x Halle with her sibling and the pair were signed to Beyonce’s record label while they were still in high school back in 2015.
Halle will also star in the remake of The Colour Purple and is set to enjoy a fruitful Hollywood acting career.
The Little Mermaid is set to be released in 2023 and will follow the same story as the original film that was released more than three decades ago.
