Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Mo Farah and Alison Hammond lead nominations at Ethnicity Awards

The shortlist for the Ethnicity Awards 2022 has been announced.

Former Little Mix singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock, This Morning’s Alison Hammond and Sir Mo Farah are all in line to win themselves a possible gong.

The Ethnicity Awards recognise individuals with a track record of advancing equality and opportunity for society’s Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic groups.

Musicians Dave, Emeli Sandé and Stormzy are also nominated for their work and activism.

Comedian Mo Gilligan, actor Dev Patel, international music artist Olivia Rodrigo and British Vogue Edward Enninful are also listed.

Other stars nominated include Liverpool FC star Mohamed Salah and Arsenal FC talent Bukayo Saka. Joining them in the Sports Personality category is the fastest woman in British history, Dina Asher-Smith.

Professor Jonathan Van-Tam and the first hijab-wearing MP, Apsana Begum, are also on the shortlist.

Founder of the Ethnicity Awards, Sarah Garrett MBE, said when discussing the nominations: “These awards exist to shine a light on the individuals, organisations and charities who are helping to make the world a better place for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities during what continues to be a very challenging time.”

She added: “The fact there continues to be racist abuse at sporting events, racial profiling in fashion, regressive stances in politics and stereotyping across the board, to name but a few problems shows that we still have a long way to go. However, every nominee here has used their platform to shine a light on issues facing Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities.”

Olympic hero Sir Mo, who recently announced he was trafficked to the UK from Somalia as a domestic servant, is being nominated for his magnificent career achievements.

Singer Leigh-Anne is being acknowledged for her activism in fighting against racism.

Her nomination comes a year after winning the ‘Media Champion’ award at the British Diversity Awards for her BBC documentary Race, Pop and Power, highlighting her experiences as a Black woman in the music industry.

Coral Taylor from sponsors HSBC UK added: “Congratulations and good luck to all of the incredible role models and change makers nominated this year.”
