Love Island star Luca Bish has been caught up in the show’s main dramatic storyline and body language expert Darren Stanton has weighed in on how it has affected him.
Luca Bish joined his fellow islanders as part of the original lineup and was involved in a love triangle with Gemma and Davide, but things became more complicated after her ex-boyfriend Jacques entered the villa.
Luca was clearly bothered by his arrival as a second love triangle formed and to make matters worse, in a recent episode Gemma accidentally called Luca by Jacques’ name.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Star on behalf of Slingo, Darren gave his thoughts on Luca’s reaction and said: “Luca’s behaviour since Jacques entered the villa has seen him become more insecure and his confidence appears to be diminishing. He seems to be besotted with Gemma, however, this is not mutual and could be knocking Luca’s confidence.”

Luca has been very affectionate with Gemma over the past week and the pair often like to sit on a sofa, with Gemma in front while Luca leans back with his arms around her.
Darren gave a possible reason as to why this may be and revealed: “Gemma hasn’t shown any definitive signs of what we call in psychology reciprocal liking towards Luca. Her behavioural gestures instead suggest that she isn’t thinking about Luca as a longtime partner.”
Darren suggested that as Luca “wears his heart on his sleeve, Gemma “seems to see that as a weakness” and her concern for him “seems to be more common courtesy than on a romantic level”.
He said that Gemma “isn’t one to hold back on her feelings” as she’s “very confident in herself” so she “won’t force something that isn’t there”.
The expert also thinks that Jacques’ presence in the villa will “only make Luca more paranoid” which could “hinder his romance with Gemma, especially as he tries to keep her attention”.
He said: “The law of reversal effect means that the more someone tries to do something, the more they tend to fail. In the case of Luca, the more he tries to show Gemma affection and solidify their relationship as a couple, the more she seems to be pulling away from him.”
Stanton has also noticed that Luca can “often be seen biting his lip” which can be “a flirtatious signal,” but also a “self-reassurance gesture”.
He noted: “There have also been subtle changes in his emotions. When Gemma is on the offensive, he tries to appear super confident by sitting or standing with his arms out, spreading out and occupying more space in an attempt to assert his power.”
“Gemma, meanwhile, is aware of the power dynamic between her and Luca, allowing her to be the dominant one between them and leaving Luca feeling uneasy about their future.”
