Michelle Keegan to spend months away from husband Mark Wright for 'dream' TV role

Michelle Keegan has been forced to spend months away from her husband Mark Wright as she films her “dream” role.

The former Coronation Street star, 34, has landed a key part in forthcoming BBC drama Ten Pound Poms.

Produced by the same team responsible for raunchy Netflix show Sex Education, the six-part series will follow a group of Brits as they emigrate to Australia and New Zealand after the Second World War.

Set to air in the UK and Australia, the drama will film down under and earlier this month, Michelle jetted off to begin work on the project.

She will spend months away from Mark, 35, during filming.

Michelle’s world-crossing adventure follows the couple recently celebrating their seven-year wedding anniversary.

A source told The Sun: “Michelle has always had one big dream, which is appearing in a period drama and Ten Pound Poms will let her dip her toe in those past times.”

The series has been written by Brassic writer Danny Brocklehurst.

Of the project, he said: “It is a big, bold character piece about what it means to start again, to be an outsider in a new land.

“It asks questions about success and failure, identity, parenthood and belonging.

“The assisted migration programme is a little-known part of British and Australian history but offers endless stories about the people who travelled to the other side of the world in search of a better life.”

Michelle’s big news follows Mark recently landing his very own BBC project.

The former TOWIE star will film a brand new travel show for the public service broadcaster..

Called A Wright Old Adventure, the series was announced earlier this month and will see Mark team up with his father and brother Josh as they explore a host of British attractions.

The trio will also take on a number of challenges in the series, such as go-karting and kite-surfing.

Mark previously said: “I’m absolutely buzzing for this.

“At this stage in my life I want to do things that I really want to do and love.”
