Now they’re back together – Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan will be returning to Ramsay Street.
The official Neighbours Twitter account confirmed the news, with a post that said: “”Scott and Charlene are the ultimate Neighbours couple and it would not feel right to end the show without them
“We are thrilled that Jason and Kylie have come home to play a very special part in our series finale…”
The confirmation comes after Kylie and Jason shared clues they could be returning on their respective social media pages.
Kylie shared a close-up of a Neighbours script with her 2.3 million Instagram fans, teasing a return for her character, Charlene.
Jason Donovan also shared half a Neighbours script on his Instagram.
Kylie’s post showed the first half of the show’s title and the name Scott, while Jason’s showed the second half of the title, part of Charlene’s name and Ramsay Street, the iconic Melbourne cul-de-sac where the soap is set.
In March it was announced that Neighbours will be coming to an end in August, after 37 years.
Production is set to end on June 10.
At the height of Neighbours mania around 20 million UK viewers watched Charlene and Scott’s wedding in 1988 – which at the time was more than the entire population of Australia.
Earlier this year, Jasonsaid on BBC Breakfast that it was time to ‘celebrate’ the long-running show.
“It’s kept my family employed for a long time to be honest! My daughter is in it, so is my dad,” he said.
“We should be grateful for what it’s given Australia, actors, producers, writers, directors.”
Jason’s daughter Jemma has played Harlow Robinson on the soap since 2019. His father Terrence Donovan played Erinsborough’s Doug Willis from 1990 to 1994 and again in 2005 and from 2014 to 2016.
Scott and Charlene will still know a few familiar faces in Erinsborough. Scott’s brother Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) still lives there, and their younger sister Lucy (Melissa Bell) pops back regularly.
The couple’s friends Jane Harris (Annie Jones), Melanie Pearson (Lucinda Cowden) and Dr. Clive Gibbons (Geoff Paine) are also back in Erinsborough.
Neighbours continues weekdays at 1.45pm and 6pm on Channel 5
