Netflix's The Crown 'should continue airing' despite backlash as season 5 approaches

After receiving backlash from all angles regarding the portrayal of the monarchy on Netflix’s hit drama series The Crown, an expert has now said the show should continue business as usual.

Following the release of The Crown’s trailer for the fifth series which is set to air on the streaming platform in November, many have been left concerned with the depiction of Princess Diana’s life and the Royal Family overall.

But despite the uproar, director and SEO expert Lukasz Zelezny believes Netflix needs to continue to produce original real life programming as this is what viewers are drawn to.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Lukasz said: “As a general rule, Netflix and other streaming services should continue to air original programming as it gives viewers an incentive to subscribe.

“The Crown has generated great press and critical acclaim since its debut in November 2016. The first season was released in its entirety on November 4, and the show was nominated for 13 Emmy Awards (and won two).

“And as long as the show continues to perform well, Netflix should keep it on the air.”

He continued: “Original programming is one of the key selling points for Netflix, and The Crown is a high-quality show that has been very well received.

“As long as Netflix can continue to produce original content that viewers want to see, it will be able to maintain its place as a top streaming service.”

He finished off by saying: “The Crown is an important part of that strategy, and Netflix should continue to air it.”

After receiving criticism for the trailer of The Crown online, Netflix was forced to add a disclaimer to the footage.

The disclaimer read: “Inspired by real events, this fictional dramatisation tells the story of Queen Elizabeth II and the political and personal events that shaped her reign.”

Last week, a spokesperson for The Crown said: “The Crown has always been presented as a drama based on historical events.

“Series five is a fictional dramatisation, imagining what could have happened behind closed doors during a significant decade for the royal family – one that has already been scrutinised and well-documented by journalists, biographers and historians.”
