Strictly Come Dancing chaos as launch show faces cancellation in BBC shake-up

Strictly Come Dancing is in chaos because the launch show that was due to air at weekend might be cancelled in wake of Queen Elizabeth II’s death.

The beloved BBC dancing competition may or may not air on Saturday with insiders saying that there is a “50/50” chance as to whether Strictly will air the pairing up show on September 17.

TV Zone – a Twitter page and website known for its inside knowledge – has said: “For everybody asking: It’s still 50/50 as to whether #Strictly will air next weekend. The question the BBC will be weighing up is whether it’s appropriate to air it on the bank holiday weekend of the funeral and period of national mourning.”

They went on to add: “Two most likely scenarios if the launch show does NOT air next weekend: a) Launch show airs on Sat 24th Sept. Live shows begin on Sat 1st Oct (series will be a week shorter than planned). b) Launch shows airs on Fri 23rd Sept. Live shows begin on Sat 24th Sept as planned.”

But the BBC is only confirming their schedule for today and tomorrow at this stage.

Fans are completely divided by the chaotic Strictly theories though, with some begging the channel to air the launch show on the 17th as planned, and others saying next month wouldn’t hurt.

“Don’t want to sound insensitive – but I think this Saturday’s #Strictly Launch show should go ahead but be placed on @BBCTwo or @bbcthree whilst BBC one continues News coverage. If Gogglebox and Bake off can go ahead – then so can Strictly it’s escapism,” penned one.

Another added: “If they postpone the strictly launch show to the day before the 1st live show, we’ll not get any behind the scenes content of the first week of rehearsals on insta bc they won’t be able to reveal their partners.”

Someone else offered: “Lots of discussion about Strictly launch show next weekend but aren’t (King) Charles and (Queen Consort) Camilla fans of the show? They may give the go ahead for it to be shown as planned – bit of joy in a sad time?”

But others didn’t seem fussed if it needed to be postponed, with one writing: “A week later wouldn’t hurt.”

Someone else said: “Strictly can wait! October if it has to.”

“I think it makes sense to hold off, have the ‘launch show’ the day before (Friday) the first live show (Saturday),” offered a third.

The former Monarch’s death was announced at 6:30pm, BST on Thursday – with the entire nation now mourning her death while celebrating the new reign of our King.
