Strictly routine axed last minute from BBC show in respect to Solihull lake tragedy

Strictly Come Dancing bosses have revealed they removed the professional dance segment from the semi-final results show out of respect for the lives lost in the Solihull lake tragedy.

The performance was reportedly removed from the final edit of Monday’s (December 12) show as a sign of respect to the three young boys who lost their lives after falling into a frozen lake in Solihull.

The death of three of the four boys pulled from the frozen lake was confirmed on Monday evening by West Midlands Police.

The results show usually opens with a dance segment performed by the show’s professional dancers, including those who may not have competed this year and those that have been eliminated from the competition.

The show’s hosts, Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly teased the segment at the end of Sunday night’s live show, but fans noticed the feature was missing on the big day.

Confused fans took to Twitter, wondering what had happened to the show.

“So what happen to the pro dance in #Strictly? Didn’t they tease that Craig was gonna be in it?” one wrote.

Another fan asked if any audience members had seen what went on: “Was anyone at #strictly last night? What happened to the pro dance with Craig?”

One member was kind enough to share what had reportedly happened during the dance segment, confirming that judge Craig Revel Horwood appeared as a Snow Queen.

The insider tweeted: “Craig, dressed as the Snow Queen sits on a throne on a sort of cake that’s supposed to be an ice plinth. Giovanni is his butler and doesn’t QUITE have enough room on the top of the cake to walk around.”

They went on to share that an unnamed pro dancer told the audience that the bar for the dance was “deliberately lowered”.

“At a break in the filming, one pro tells the audience that they’ve deliberately lowered the bar to show that anyone can dance”, the audience member tweeted.

A BBC spokesperson added: “In light of tragic news events, we took the decision not to broadcast the group dance on this week’s results show.”
