90s boyband star rejects BBC Strictly Come Dancing offer after turning back on TV

Five singer Ritchie Neville has revealed he won’t be getting his dancing shoes on any time soon.

The ’90s boyband star chatted to the Daily Star as he rejected the idea of starring on Strictly Come Dancing.

When asked if he’d do any more TV shows, as he starred on Paddy McGuinness’ Take Me Out several years ago, he said: “I don’t know if I would do anything like that because of my daughter.

“Kids do love Strictly but the sequins… Never say never but I’m just not certain how I feel about the sequins,” he answered.

Ritchie sat down with us as he spoke about his new music release which he is working on with producer pal Liam Keagan.

They have named themselves 998 and has just released their new single titled Sunshine.

Talking about his new project, Ritchie said: “During lockdown, I got really into producing and like learning the whole production thing and that’s what kind of kept me sane. And yeah, here we are, making dance tunes just for the sheer fun of it.

“This song is a very happy sort of piano-house vibe. But future tracks will get a bit more moody and dare I say like Camelphat’s sound.

“Liam and I complement each other quite well, in styles and knowledge, and now often actually I’m kind of more the alternative one saying ‘Why don’t we try this or that?’

“I guess this for me is my antidote to many years in pop.”

Ritchie says his fans are still bonkers

Though luckily for Five fans, this doesn’t mean gigging has stopped as he is still out on the circuit with his fellow members Sean Conlon and Scott Robinson.

Ritchie also told us that his fans are still as “bonkers” as ever and still hurl bras at him on stage.

He laughed: “Yeah frequently bras come along on stage and it’s really catching them mid-air while doing the routine which is a personal favourite of mine.

“I did that fairly recently and everyone cheered.

“But certainly on social media, with single women, they’ll say ‘I always thought I’d marry you but there is still time’ and stuff like that so it does still happen.”
