Alan Titchmarsh and his Love Your Garden team left an elderly couple in tears during this week’s instalment of the ITV show after carrying out the urgent overhauling of their garden.
Rob and Margaret Isdale, from Grantham, Lincolnshire, who have fostered a staggering 150 children over a period of 45 years cried tears of joy as they saw the end product for the first time.
On learning about the couple, presenter and gardening expert Alan, 74, and co-stars Katie Rushworth, David Domoney and Frances Tophill took it upon themselves to reward Rob and Margaret for their efforts.

As work commenced, Alan told viewers his idea was to create a look inspired by The Secret Garden by converting the shed to a mock Tudor design, with “ancient looking follies” adding to the “ruins” feel.
And after describing the garden’s existing look as “dull and boring”, he said: “I want this new garden to make them feel as cared for as the children who come to their home.”
The team soon created several new aspects to the space, adding brick edged gravel pathways to a dining area, a Gothic archway, mature shrubs and a metal gazebo to the mix.
Some viewers appeared to be less than impressed with the new look however, taking to Twitter to offer their thoughts.
One commented: “Omg! The ‘Love your garden’ people ruining that lovely garden … with bricks and concrete! ! #loveyourgarden No thank you!”
And another added: “It’s too crowded and busy for me but as long as they like it… #LoveYourGarden.”
Thankfully, however, Rob and Margaret were taken aback by the team’s efforts.
“Oh wow,” said Margaret. “Goodness me is that our garden? Wow it’s the best I have seen. It’s absolutely brilliant… look at the gazebo. Is it really our garden? ‘Thank you so much.”
Rob added: “I knew it would be special but that’s extra special. Thank you so much.”
The episode concluded, meanwhile, with Alan and his team inviting scores of the couple’s foster kids to the new garden for an emotional family reunion.
