EastEnders’ Danielle Harold shares gushing tribute to former co-stars after NTAs success

EastEnders actress Danielle Harold has posted a gushing tribute to her fans and colleagues after securing a huge win at last night’s National Television Awards.

Danielle snagged the prestigious Serial Drama Performance award, beating stiff competition from other notable talents, including Coronation Street’s Charlotte Jordan, Emmerdale’s Dominic Brunt, and Coronation Street’s Maureen Lipman.

Danielle’s stellar performance as Lola during the heart-wrenching brain tumour storyline captured the hearts of viewers up until her character died earlier this year.

“It means the absolute world. To be up with so many talented people in my category is such an honour.”

She was quick to share the credit, acknowledging the collaborative effort behind her character’s emotional journey.

“As proud as I am to win, this definitely doesn’t just belong to me,” she humbly admitted.

“There have been so many people involved in Lola’s brain tumour story, and I couldn’t have done it without working alongside the most amazing talented family, The Mitchell’s, and the cast and crew at Eastenders that carried me through the year.”

Harold had previously revealed that she struggled to power through the script for the episode in which Lola dies, saying that it was “the hardest thing to read” but that it was also “the most beautiful episode of EastEnders I’ve ever read”.

Harold said that scene in which the character dies is “definitely the most difficult thing I’ve ever filmed in my life”, explaining: “Obviously, we haven’t experienced it and so, just to put yourself in that mindset, it was really difficult, and slow your body down and everything. I thought that would be the easy part.”

As Danielle bids farewell to Walford she is looking forward to new challenges in the world of entertainment.

Speaking to the press at the NTAs, she shared her post-Walford plans: “I wish I’d have gone to an island and relaxed. Straight back into auditioning so I can’t wait to see what’s next!”

When asked about venturing into reality TV, she admitted, “I don’t know really. That’s what’s exciting about leaving a soap when you’ve been in it for such a long time, it’s like the world changes, the industry changes so much – I’m really excited to see what’s next.”

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 7.30pm
