Helen Skelton in tears as she quits job live on air to spend more time with kids

Helen Skelton as made the emotional announcement that she is leaving her BBC Radio 5 Live show to spend more time with her children.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star, 40, shared the news that she would be leaving her Sunday morning job after just one year.

She explained that she had found it difficult to juggle the job with being a single mum to her three children, following her split from Richie Myler last year.

As her voice cracked, Helen said: “I am not alright about it but, you know, needs must. The juggle is real.”

She then gave an insight into her home life with her kids, as she said: “There is an eight-year-old with a sideline who needs me.”

Helen’s show came to a close later and she told listeners: “I’ve loved every minute of the past year. Thank you to all the team and thank you to all of you. It’s hard to know what to say without getting emotional.”

The news comes after Helen reportedly told friends she was feeling guilty for starting dating again after the break down of her marriage last year.

Helen announced in April of 2022 that she and her rugby player husband Richie Myler were splitting up.

The duo married in December 2013 and share three children together – sons Ernie and Louis, and daughter Elsie.

But Helen has been keeping herself busy, as she joined Strictly’s line-up of celebrities last year and also hosts on Countryfile and Morning Live.

She also has a new show in the works with fellow Strictly alum Dan Walker.

A source told Closer : “Helen’s family and friends encouraged her to get back out there and she was happy to dip her toe back into the dating scene, but she has had some wobbles and found herself feeling guilty.

“She’s concerned about who to let into her life and worried about being judged for any decisions she makes.”

The source also claimed that people had been making snide comments about the break down of her marriage.

They added: “Ultimately, she knows she tried everything she could, and once the trust was broken there was just no going back.

“But dating again has brought up some unexpected feelings that she’s been struggling with.”
