'Hell yeah it hurt' claims Chris Rock as he breaks silence on Will Smith Oscars slap

Actor and comedian Chris Rock has finally broken his silence on the slap he received from Will Smith, which rocked the showbiz world at last year’s Oscars.

The 58-year old found himself on the receiving end of Smith’s right hand after making a gag about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hairstyle comparing it to G.I Jane – despite knowing she suffers from alopecia.

Although Fresh Prince star Smith went on to pick up the Best Actor gong that evening for his role in King Richard, he was subsequently banned from future Academy Awards ceremonies for the next 10 years.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Rock recently discussed the incident at a show in Charleston, South Carolina.

He said: “The thing people want to know . . did it hurt? Hell yeah, it hurt.”

Ever the funny man, he then compared his role in 1991’s New Jack City to Smith’s 2001 Muhammad Ali biopic, joking: “He played Muhammad Ali! I played Pookie!'”

And according to the Sun, he added: “Even in animated movies, I’m a zebra, he’s a f***ing shark.”

A source close to the forthcoming Netflix broadcast told Page Six : “If you were waiting to see Rock on tour address the infamous Will Smith slap situation… the comedian is waiting to spill his humorous take on it on his live Netflix stand-up special”

The insider also said Chris has been working with “veteran comedy writers” to ensure his jokes about the slap are “solid and funny.”
