Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness ‘to split huge fortune’ after divorce announcement

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness are reportedly splitting their massive fortune “amicably” following the shock news of their divorce.

The couple, who announced they are to split after 27 years of marriage last week, have already began dividing up their $290 million (£237 million) estate.

Wolverine star, Hugh, 54, and Deborra-Lee, 67, share a huge property portfolio, which they intend to split equally in the “tricky” and “gut-wrenching” process, according to US Weekly.

“Their lives were so interwoven, so it’s an extremely tricky and gut-wrenching process dividing everything up and figuring out who gets what in terms of assets and finances,” a source told the publication.

They continued: “Their lives were so interwoven, so it’s an extremely tricky and gut-wrenching process dividing everything up and figuring out who gets what in terms of assets and finances.

“The [divorce] filing will be formalised in due course, but before that happens, their aim is to come to an agreement. They’re determined to [do this] as amicably as possible.”

An article in Men’s Health as far back as 2010 estimated Jackman’s net worth at around $257 million – largely the fruits of his role within the Marvel Universe.

The former couple invested a significant amount of that in property from the late 1990s onwards, acquiring a series of luxury homes in the US and their native Australia.

Their first purchase, meanwhile, came a year after they wed – a modest $240,000 apartment, which they sold for almost three times that figure in 2015.

In 2009 they splashed out a cool $21 million on a five-bedroom Manhattan apartment on the banks of the Hudson River.

Seven years later the duo spent almost $6 million on a Bondi Beach ocean-front apartment, before boosting their portfolio with further lavish houses in the Hamptons and New York City’s Chelsea district.

The statement read: “We have been fortunate to share nearly three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful and loving marriage. Our journey is now changing and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.

“Our family has been and always will be our top priority. We take on this next chapter with gratitude, love and kindness.

“We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family goes through this transition in all of our lives. This is the only statement any of us will ever make.”
