Jennifer Lawrence says filming with co-star Leonardo DiCaprio was ‘absolute misery’

Jennifer Lawrence has branded working with Leonardo DiCaprio and Timothée Chalamet an “absolute misery”, confirming she had the “most annoying day of her life” with the pair.

The Hunger Games alum starred in Netflix flick Don’t Look Up with the pair in 2021, with a star-studded cast that also included Jonah Hill and Meryl Streep.

The action-comedy follows the story of a giant meteor hurtling towards earth, putting all its inhabitants at risk.

But with its release coming just after a slew of Covid-19 lockdowns, and apparently all the actors were starved of human contact for so long that they all went a bit mad.

Jennifer confirmed that filming one scene in the film involved the trio travelling in a car together, explaining on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert: “They drove me crazy that day. I don’t know what it was.

“Timothée was just excited to be out of the house, I think it was his first scene. And Leo had picked the song that was playing in the car and was just like, ‘You know, this song is about blah, blah, blah.'”

Though she insisted both of her co-stars were “very nice”, the atmosphere wasn’t great on set that day, as Jennifer confessed: “I don’t know. I just remember being in absolute misery that day. It was hell.”

The Wolf of Wall Street star Leo was paid more than Jennifer for appearing in the flick – receiving $30million (£22.4million) in earnings while Jen raked in $25million (£18.7million).

But the star was candid about the pay gap, commenting: “Look, Leo brings in more box office than I do. I’m extremely fortunate and happy with my deal.”

She added to Vanity Fair: “In other situations, what I have seen – and I’m sure other women in the workforce have seen as well – is that it’s extremely uncomfortable to inquire about equal pay.

“And if you do question something that appears unequal, you’re told it’s not gender disparity but they can’t tell you what exactly it is.”

And Jen did insist on being featured more prominently in the film’s credits than her co-star, as she was “number one on the call sheet”.

She confessed: “Leo was very gracious about it.”

Originally the pair were going to have an equal credit beside each other, but Jennifer requested hers to appear a fraction earlier, explaining: “I guess maybe somewhere down the line, I kicked the stone further, like, ‘What if it wasn’t equal?’”
