Johnny Depp's 'totally devastated' by pal legendary musician Jeff Beck's 'sudden' death

Johnny Depp is “totally devastated” following the death of his close pal, legendary musician Jeff Beck.

Jeff’s family shared that the English guitarist “peacefully passed” on Tuesday (January 10) aged 78 after “suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis.”

Pirates of The Caribbean actor Johnny, 59, was reportedly by “Jeff’s bedside” along with “some other rock stars” before the musician’s death, reports People.

A source revealed to the outlet: “They had a really tight friendship, they were extremely close, and he got even closer over this past summer when they were touring together.

“The sickness came on really quickly, and it all deteriorated rapidly in the last couple of weeks. Johnny is still processing this news. He’s devastated.”

The late musician and Johnny recently wrapped up a sold-out tour after taking their hit album 18 on the road.

The close friends admitted they titled their album 18 after the creative burst they felt working together.

Jeff said in a statement: “We would joke about how we felt 18 again, so that just became the album title, too,”

The English guitarist was an eight-time Grammy winner, earning his first seven for instrumental performances and his eighth in 2009 for his work on The Imagine Project.

Sharing the news of his passing, his family’s statement read: “On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing.

“After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday. His family ask for privacy while they process this tremendous loss.”

Amongst those paying their tributes, musicians from across the world have been paying homage to the award-winning guitarist.

The Rolling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger said music had lost “one of the greatest guitar players in the world” in his online tribute to Beck, as he shared a video of the pair playing together.

Sir Rod Stewart said Beck was “on another planet” and described him as “the greatest”.

Rock star Ozzy Osbourne said it had been “such an honour” to know and play with him on his most recent album.
