Jonnie Irwin leaves A Place In The Sun co-star in tears with poignant Father’s Day pic

A Place In The Sun star Jonnie Irwin shared a poignant Father’s Day update along with a picture of his sons, leaving one of his co-stars in tears.

It comes after he has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, which he kept private until last November, but stated as he wants to encourage others to “make the most of every day”.

He took to social media to share a picture of his sons from an interview with Hello magazine, as he said: “Father’s Day means even more to me this year.”

His Channel 4 co-star Jasmine admitted she had been left in tears as she said: “Cheeky rascals! All four of you. Honestly, this photo has got me… I’m not crying, just got something in my eye. Love you all xxx.”

One fan agreed: “Perfect, once a dad always a dad, you are and always will be their hero.”

Another added: “Our enthusiasm for the good times and love for your gorgeous family is wonderful to watch .. you’re inspirational.”

Jonnie has admitted that he has started taking himself away from his children when the pain starts too much as he doesn’t want them to remember him as angry.

He said: “I remove myself on a number of occasions because I’m not good to be around when I’m in pain. I’m like a bear with a sore head and I don’t want them to be around that.”

Jonnie also opened up about spending as much time with his children as he can before he becomes too ill, as he added in the same interview: “It can happen any time. I’m here to stop it for as long as possible.”

He continued: “I want to make plans. I want to make memories and capture these moments with my family because the reality is, my boys are going to grow up not knowing their dad and that breaks my heart.

“I don’t know how long I have left, but I try to stay positive and my attitude is that I’m living with cancer, not dying from it. I set little markers – things I want to be around for. I got into the habit of saying: ‘Don’t plan ahead because I might not be well enough’.”

Jonnie has three sons named Rex, Rafa and Cormac with his wife, Jessica Holmes, and he regularly shares updates from his home life on Instagram.
