Lorraine Kelly had to halt her show to issue a message to viewers before being forced to apologise over her comment.
The presenter’s self-titled morning show returned for another instalment on Friday (September 22) with Lorraine back at the helm. But the 63-year-old soon stopped her discussion with fashion Mark Heyes to give a shoutout to someone special.
Mark said: “It’s your mum’s birthday.” Lorraine replied: “Yes, aw there she is,” as a photo of her popped up on the screen.

Lorraine then turned to the camera and said: “Oh happy birthday mum, I won’t tell everybody that you’re 82, oh I just did.” She then burst out into laughter along with Mark before quipping: “Sorry about that, so sorry about that.”
She added: “It’s been great, she’s been down here and we’ve had such a fantastic time. It’s been lovely to celebrate because she’s not been very well at all and she’s amazing. Happy birthday mum, see you in a minute!”
Earlier this year in July, Lorraine’s mum was rushed to the University Hospital Monklands, in Lanarkshire, Scotland. Lorraine shared the news on Twitter and wrote: “Having spent a lot of time over the past few days with my mum in @UHMonklands hospital, I’ve seen again just how kind, caring, hard-working, funny and downright fabulous our NHS workers are. ‘Thank you’ doesn’t begin to cover it.”
Her mum was also rushed to hospital last year in August, after she was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome, a condition that stops kidneys from working properly
Speaking to HELLO!, she said: “Until she became ill, mum was a very active and independent 80-year-old who loved going to her book club and exercise classes and was learning German, so it was hard for her to be on strong medication and not be able to do as much as before.”.

It comes after Lorraine revealed she was taking a break from social media after it “went a bit dark” in recent weeks on X. The morning show host gave an update to her followers after she admitted she felt the platform had turned “dark” in recent weeks. She wrote: “Morning. Having a Twitter break – it’s all gone a bit dark – find me on Instagram @lorrainekellysmith for mostly cute photos of my dog.”
