Russell Crowe has revealed he was once “f***ed in the neck” by a huge tarantula as the venomous spider crawled up his naked body.
The Gladiator star made the admission during a bawdy appearance at the 57th Karlovy Vary Film Festival on Friday, where he accepted an award for outstanding contribution to world cinema.
Later in the evening the celebrated actor, who has also been making music since the 80s, took to the stage to perform a set with his band — Indoor Garden Party.

But the Oscar-winner didn’t just entertain the audience with his music, he also used his time on stage to tell some hilarious anecdotes from his decades in Hollywood.
At one point he had the crowd roaring with laughter as he recalled a painful mishap while on the set of the 1995 film Rough Magic, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The 59-year-old actor, who starred alongside Bridget Fonda in the comedy, said the incident happened while he was filming a scene where a tarantula bigger than his hand crawled up his naked body and into his mouth before quickly being taken away by a spider handler.
But everything went wrong when during one take when the creature stopped at his neck and began spreading its legs out.
Russell told the crowd he woke up with a painful rash on his chest the next day and went to a doctor to figure out what was wrong with him.
But he was horrified to find out his body was “full of tarantula venom” because the spider had been “aroused” as it climbed up his neck.
“When a tarantula becomes aroused, it ejects these very fine hairs,” he recalled his doctor telling him.
Luckily, he had no long-lasting symptoms from the spider’s raunchy attack and was told he’d be fine within a week as his doctor gave him a prescription to apply to the rash.
The actor recalled how he was already “uncomfortable” with the spider scene when he first read the script but revealed he did the same thing he usually does when he comes across scenes he’s worried about.
He explained: “Certain things will be in the scripts that I am a bit uncomfortable with – I just put them to one side of my mind and I think ‘to be dealt with later.'”
But he revealed there’s a least one good thing that came out of the horrifying ordeal.
“I’m pretty sure that in the history of cinema, I am the only Academy Award winner who has been f***ed in the neck by a tarantula,” he joked.
