Strictly Come Dancing fans fume as host ’embarrasses’ star’s son with odd outfit

Strictly Come Dancing viewers have slammed the show for purposefully “embarrassing” one of the contestant’s kids.

After Krishnan Guru-Murthy’s performance, Claudia Winkleman spoke to the Channel 4 newscaster about his dance and conversation quickly turned to his son Jay, who was in the audience.

There has been a running joke that Jay was embarrassed to come and watch his father perform, so to show him up a bit Winkleman wore a white t-shirt with the phrase “hello Jay” written across the front.

Although Krishnan’s co-stars all laughed along with the joke, home audiences were not so impressed and took to Twitter to call out the show for making Jay “suffer”.

Over on X, formerly known as Twitter, someone simply wrote “poor Jay” while another fan said: “#Strictly be like: Jay must suffer.” Another post read: “Loving the hello Jay shirt but don’t keep doing it and embarrassing the poor lad.”

Someone else wrote: “I think after all this, nothing can embarrass Jay anymore. This is exposure therapy.”

Earlier on in the show, hosts Claudia and Tess Daly announced that one of the contestants would be missing from this week’s episode.

The pair issued an update on Amanda Abbington and said: “Amanda and Giovanni are missing from the line-up. Due too medical reasons, Amanda is unable to perform this week. As per the rules of the competition she’s been given a by and, all being well, will return to the ballroom next week. Amanda, we are all sending you so much love.”

Claudia couldn’t resist switching into the cheeky t-shirt

Neither star has shared anything on their social media about the unexpected news, however Janette Manrara spoke about the decision on It Takes Two.

She informed viewers that the pair will not be performing this weekend but they are allowed to return the following week.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tomorrow night on BBC One.
