Strictly’s Janette Manrara and Aljaž Škorjanec’s baby girl has sweet meaning behind name

The Strictly Come Dancing duo announced earlier this year that they would be welcoming their first child together.

Janette Manrara and Aljaž Škorjanec announced on Saturday (July 29) that their little girl had arrived safely after a lot of speculation after the duo went quiet on Instagram.

The duo, who tied the knot in 2017, have expanded their family as they announced the birth of their daughter with a sweet photo of the three of them.

They wrote: “Lyra Rose Škorjanec July 28, 2023,” alongside a rose emoji as they posted a photo of them grinning from ear to ear.

OK! has since discovered the true meaning of their baby girl’s name – and it’s very fitting for the pair.

Using baby name website The Bump, the name Lyra is of Greek origin and stems from Orpheus’ lyre. The myth says Orpheus would play musical that was so beautiful that it caused Gods, trees and animals to dance.

Given how Janette and Aljaž met and what they do for a living, it’s the perfect nod to their relationship.

The middle name Rose has Latin origins and refers to the flower.

The happy couple were immediately hit with messages of congratulations upon announcing the arrival of Lyra, particularly from their Strictly family.

Giovanni Pernice led the way as he wrote: “Congrats” and multiple love heart emojis, while Amy Dowden branded their tot “utter perfection”.

Oti Mabuse also swooned over their newest family member writing: “Congratulations! Best news ever.”

Janette and Aljaž announced they were expecting their first baby in February after trying for a baby for two years – and just as they were heading down the IVF route, they discovered they were pregnant.

She told Hello! at the time: “I know that IVF can be really strenuous on a woman’s body and there is no guarantee it will work, so to know that this little miracle just came from a wonderful night we had together is amazing.

“I think the baby decided to make Mum and Dad panic a bit before saying, ‘ok, fine, I’m coming up now.”

Janette and Aljaž have been together for 12 years and got engaged in 2015 before they wed in 2017.
