BBC Breakfast favourite Carol Kirkwood was forced to deliver some bad news to viewers.
During Tuesday’s visit (June 25) to the BBC studios, Jon Kay welcomed viewers back to the morning show alongside his co-host Sarah Campbell. The TV star stepped in for regular host Sally Nugent for the second this this week on the famous red sofa.
Although no explanation was given for her absence, they dynamic duo delivered another stellar show. Throughout the morning show, they discussed some of the biggest stories hitting the headlines today.

This included the latest update for the ongoing search for Lancashire teen Jay Slater and football coverage ahead of the upcoming Euros match between England and Slovenia. The pair welcomed beloved meteorologist Carol onto the show to deliver the latest weather report.
Brits have been treated to glorious weather this week but Carol announced on X that pollen levels have skyrocketed up and down the country. She shared a picture of the weather map for the British Isles which was covered in red symbols, indicating very high levels of pollen across London and the Midlands.
Her map indicated there were lower levels of pollen in Scotland and North East England – but they were still marked as high or medium. Carol captioned the post: “Oh joy!!! @BBCBreakfast” which she signed off with three kisses and a sneezing emoji.
It didn’t take long before her hayfever-suffering fans flooded the comments to share their disappointment. One user penned: Northwest Scotland looks about the best area to hide!” as another agreed: “Swear it gets slightly worse every year!!” A third echoed: “Hanky at the ready!” as a fourth chimed in with: “Get the tissues ready… eyes itching already!”
But it wasn’t all bad news for viewers this morning, as Carol explained that Brits are in for another hot day with temperatures reaching highs of 28 degrees. The TV favourite went on to warn that people could also be in for a rough night’s sleep with the sweltering temperatures set to continue through the night.
It comes after Carol sparked concern with a live broadcast from a lido in Greenwich in the morning sunshine. Eagle-eyed fans spotted the blonde bombshell was gradually getting more and more sunburnt as the three-and-a-half-hour long show went on.
Carol looked nothing short of sensational as she presented the show in a red and white patterned top. But it appeared as though the star hadn’t applied her sunscreen before filming as her chest slowly began to turn a vibrant shade of pink.
BBC Breakfast airs every day from 6am on BBC One or catch-up on BBC iPlayer.
