Coronation Street’s Peter Ash, better known as Paul Foreman in the soap, is living a blissfully different life from his character’s dramatic storyline.
Offscreen, Peter’s world is all about family time, as revealed by the cosy and playful snaps he frequently posts with his nurse girlfriend Amy Shawcross and their son Ayden.
Since getting together in 2018, Pete hasn’t shied away from sharing their love story online, even celebrating their four-year anniversary with an Instagram post recalling their first date, captioning it: “4 years ago we had our first date in this same pub! Love you”.
Fans are often treated to pictures of the couple enjoying date nights, city breaks to Belfast and York, or just having a laugh, like their comical attempt at recreating the iconic Spiderman kiss Pete upside down and all.
Meanwhile, on the cobbled streets of Corrie, Pete is delving deep into the emotional turmoil of Paul’s battle with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Paul passes away during Monday’s (September 9) heartbreaking episode. Viewers know the character was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) last year, and his health has dramatically declined ever since. In recent episodes, Paul’s breathing has worsened and on Monday the character will be left barely responsive, leading to him being rushed to hospital.
Sadly in devastating scenes the much-loved character will pass away. As the 18-month storyline comes to a devastating end, before beginning a new chapter without Paul, viewers will no doubt be needing the tissue as it’s a real tearjerker.
Speaking about the scenes, Peter said it was “strange” but “emotional”, and he warned fans it would be a “very sad” episode. He revealed: “I am happy with how it turned out and I’m excited for people to see it. I think it’s gonna be a very sad episode, people have come to love Paul as a character. It’s been amazing, people have taken him to heart.
“It’s gonna be very sad, I’m looking forward to seeing the aftermath and how Billy, Bernie, how they all deal with it. It’s bittersweet, mixed emotions. I’m so lucky with the actors I work with, they are amazing. It’s been really special, I am gonna miss everyone.”
Coronation Street airs on ITV at 8pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
