Corrie Kit actor’s savage four-word response to finding out he was forcing icon to leave

A newcomer to Coronation Street has revealed his reaction to learning that his character, Kit Green, would play a significant role in Beth Tinker’s departure storyline.

Just last month, soap stalwart Beth (played by Lisa George) bid farewell to the cobbles after a 13-year stint. As viewers will remember, Beth attempted to blackmail corrupt copper Kit (Jacob Roberts), but things didn’t go as planned.

Kit made his first appearance earlier this year as Bernie Winter’s (Jane Hazlegrove) long-lost son, and it’s safe to say his arrival has caused quite a stir, not least for Beth.

Beth had previously caught Kit collaborating with troublemaker Sid, who was peddling fake goods. In an attempt to gather evidence and blackmail him, Beth recorded their interaction and threatened Kit, which left him seething.

Kit actor Jacob has opened up about forcing a legend to leave the soap

However, when Beth’s son Craig (Colson Smith) admitted to Kit about the cover-up of Faye Windass and Emma Brooker’s hit and run incident in 2021, Kit seized the opportunity. Taking matters into his own hands, Kit presented Beth with a choice: leave Weatherfield or he would jeopardise her son Craig’s police career by exposing his cover-up.

In the end, Beth chose to depart from the famous cobbles, leaving her family and the show’s fans devastated. Now, actor Jacob has opened up about his feelings regarding forcing legend Beth out of Weatherfield.

Beth was forced to say her goodbyes recently

Jacob opened up to Daily Star and other media outlets, confessing that it was “hard” and he felt Beth’s exit storyline was “quite quick.” When quizzed about his reaction to learning Kit was writing Beth out of Weatherfield, Jacob responded: “It’s one of them! ” He continued: “She’d been here 13 years.”

“I’ve been in that situation before, when you meet someone and you’re like ‘Oh god I’m part of your exit storyline.’ But she was so nice with me,” he added. Jacob admitted he thought the exit storyline was “quite quick”, adding: “And you’ve got to respect the exit storyline so you really have to work.”

“It was quite quick I thought off-screen, but it had to be because it had to be from that to the other. It was hard. But it was for his gain of what he’s capable of.”

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
