Davina McCall’s Masked Singer co-star shares update after major brain surgery

Weeks after Big Brother legend Davina McCall revealed she was having brain surgery to remove a tumour, Masked Singer star Mo Gilligan gave an update on how the host is doing

Davina McCall’s Masked Singer co-star has given an update on the presenter’s health.

Big Brother legend Davina, 57, revealed last month that she had been diagnosed with a benign brain tumour, but opted to have it removed so that it would not turn malignant. The TV icon went under the knife shortly afterwards and has been recovering at home ever since, giving small updates to fans where possible.

Now, with Davina now on the mend after having the 14mm growth removed, co-star Mo Gilligan has shared some happy news with fans about her condition. The comedian revealed all on the High Performance podcast and admitted that he and Davina often share cute snaps with each other, such as of otters holding hands.

Dubbing the host as “Auntie Davina”, Mo described the TV personality as a “true friend”, and it was clear that her health was an important topic to him. He also admitted that Davina is now being extremely grateful for everything she has following her shock diagnosis.

Mo explained: “We had to do press once, and they said ‘If you could be on The Masked Singer, who would you be?’ and I said ‘I like otters – they’re my thing’. And Davina said ‘Oh my God, I Iike them too’.

“I said ‘I’ve got this page, otters, look at this’,” he quipped. “So we send each other otter videos.”

When asked about how she is holding up after her surgery, Mo branded Davina a “warrior”, as he revealed that he checked in with her as soon as the operation was over. He also said that she is a modest woman, and was stunned when she revealed that she often goes running in parks in central London and does not get put off by the possibility of being recognised.

“She said ‘Who am I to not want to go to the park and run because someone might recognise me?'” Mo recalled. “One of the most down to earth, genuine people within television.

“And I’d call her a friend as well – I don’t have a lot of people who are friends within the industry – but top people,” he beamed. “I call her Auntie Davina as well.”

Mo also thanked Davina for being a calming factor when he joined the cast of The Masked Singer after panelist Ken Jeong left the ITV show behind. He explained that Davina’s daughters knew who he was, and the pair joked on their hectic schedules.

Davina has continued to give tidbits of updates with fans as she continues to hide away from the public eye. In an emotional first video following the surgery, Davina reassured fans that she was doing okay and thanked her “amazing rock” for helping her through.

Husband Michael Douglas has been in control of her social media accounts whilst she has been in recovery, and with the pair now working towards getting her back to being 100 percent, she gave her immense gratitude to Gaby, the wife of her late father Andrew. “I’d quickly like to say big up the step-mums,” she explained, “I don’t really say thank you to Gaby enough; she’s been an amazing rock my whole life.”
