EastEnders Vinny Panesar star Shiv Jalota has teased his on-screen dad Nish’s explosive exit.
Back in May, the BBC One soap confirmed Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) was dying after being diagnosed with viral myocarditis.
The doctor told Nish that unless he gets a heart transplant – which is very difficult to come by – he will die sooner rather than later.
Upon hearing the news, Vinny forgave Nish for his bad behaviour towards their family and appeared to make amends. Nish’s other son Ravi (Aaron Thiara) has also reconciled with Nish, but the new father-son bonds aren’t all what they seem.

In a revenge plot, Vinny has teamed up with his mum Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) to con Nish and win back the family businesses.
Speaking about his character Vinny’s current storyline, actor Shiv Jalota, 30, has explained that his on-screen dad ‘may not have long left’.
He said: “What Vinny knows is that the one thing Nish wants more than anything is his children’s love, so that’s his most powerful weapon.
“Whenever he has a sense of doubt, he uses that to manipulate Nish, who is the master manipulator himself. Sometimes, I think Vinny does mask his doubts to protect Suki, but he believes he’s got Nish right where he wants him. “
Shiv added: “I think Vinny does feel a sense of guilt about what he’s doing. Despite everything Nish has done, he’s still Vinny’s dad.
“Nish is dying, and he hasn’t got long left, so that makes his guilt even worse. Vinny has to become a man he didn’t want to be just to get his inheritance.
“With both Nish and Suki, I think that what Vinny wants most is their love and trust.”
Since Ravi was exposed as Nish secret son in 2022, there are been growing rivalry between half-brothers Vinny and Ravi – especially when their dad’s inheritance is at stake.
“It’s a great conflict and something that me and Aaron Thiara both really wanted to see”, Shiv said.
“Ravi sees himself as the older brother, but Vinny is a grown man, and he doesn’t like Ravi being the golden boy. The way Vinny sees it, Ravi is doing everything he can to get his hands on Vinny’s inheritance, so he’s a threat.
He added: “Vinny is trying to manipulate Ravi and play him at his own game. ” EastEnders have so far remained tight lipped on how Nish Panesar’s storyline will pan out, but it’s bound to be explosive.
EastEnders airs Monday – Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC1 and iPlayer.
