EastEnders Whitney heartache ‘sealed’ ahead of exit as Zack makes shock decision

EastEnders’ Whitney Dean is set for major heartache, predicts Bard AI.

Last year, it was confirmed that Shona McGarty, 32, had quit the role of Whitney after 15 years of playing the character. Making her first appearance in 2008, Whitney has played a central role in several of the soap’s biggest storylines.

In February 2023, Whitney and Zack Hudson (James Farrar) were devastated after discovering their unborn child was suffering from Edwards’ syndrome. Learning their baby had a limited chance of survival, Whitney went ahead with a termination.

During Monday’s episode (January 1) of the BBC soap, Whitney was shocked to learn she was pregnant. Unable to go through the same ordeal again, Whitney told Zack she wanted an abortion.

But after a heart-to-heart with Yolande (Angela Wynter), Whitney decided to keep the baby. It appears Zack and Whitney are set for the happy ending they deserve, but there are still plenty of questions surrounding her pending exit. While some believe a dramatic death could be in store, other have speculated that Whitney could choose to leave Albert Square in favour of a new life.

With the details of her departure still under wraps, Daily Star has quizzed one of the world’s most popular artificially intelligent “creative” tools Bard AI to see whether Zack could leave Walford with Whitney – and it’s bad news. The program responded: “Actress Shona McGarty is confirmed to leave EastEnders in 2024, meaning Whitney will eventually depart the show.

“The writers could choose to have Zack accompany her, but it’s not guaranteed. Zack has family and friends in Walford, including his sister Sharon and nephew Albie. Leaving them behind could be a tough decision for him.”

Bard AI also touched upon Sharon’s recent struggles after learning that Phil (Steve McFadden) is Albie’s real father and Keanu (Danny Walters) was behind his kidnap. It added: “It would be difficult to leave Sharon behind, especially at this time.”

The program went on: “The EastEnders writers may have different plans for Zack’s storyline, not necessarily tied to Whitney’s exit.” Speaking to Inside Soap magazine about her departure, Shona confirmed it was a difficult decision.

The actress added: “I’ve seen people come and go, and meanwhile, Whitney has been one of the longest-standing characters. I’ve had so much fun and done so many storylines, some of which have been sensitive, and I’ve been honoured to be trusted with such heavy stuff, year after year.”

Shona continued: “So, I’m going to be sad to say goodbye to my friends and family, but it was right decision for me as I want to do other things. After 15 years, I’ve had a pretty good run.”
