One iconic Emmerdale star has admitted he’s taking “many months out from work” after suffering a family tragedy.
Reece Dinsdale is best known for playing Vinny’s dad Paul Ashdale in Emmerdale, and scammer Joe McIntyre in rival soap Coronation Street. Both his characters were killed off in Soapland, with Paul killed in a collision with Jimmy King and Joe dying after attempting to fake his death for insurance purposes.
Now Reece has admitted he’s being forced to take some time for himself after a tragic incident – but he’s “loving” every second of relaxing away from the small screen. Issuing an update to fans on X – formerly Twitter – Reece penned: “Following the death of my Ma (& moving house), at 64 I’ve taken a decision to have some time out from work. Many months in fact. I’ve never done that consciously.

“I’ve stuff lined up down the line, so I know that’s easy for me to say. However, I’m loving every bloody second of it!” He promised fans he is “going nowhere” as they flocked to the replies section to flood Reece with encouragement.
One penned: “Good for you. This ain’t no rehearsal – whatever works for ya! Please stick around on this medium though!” as another echoed: “Hope you really enjoy the time Reece. Ive just turned 55 and the Mrs and I, after a few years of family turmoil, have decided to just do stuff. After years of worrying about almost everything, we feel like teenagers again! Live life.”
A third social media user said: “Good for you! I remember your smiley Mum on the front row of your show. Lovely family indeed. Enjoy your well earned break.” And somebody else followed up: “Loved you on home to roost as a young lad. Enjoy your time and wallow in your memories. I’m sure they’re bountiful.”
The star went on to thank fans for their continued support as he penned: “Never known such support as I get on here. Thank you. My dad always said, ‘It doesn’t cost you anything to be nice to folk’. I didn’t get it then… but I do now.”
The actor joked about a potential sideline while he’s not working, after Colin Firth’s Pride and Prejudice shirt went up for auction and is estimated to raise around £10,000 for charity. He joked on X: “Colin Firth’s (once wet) shirt from Pride and Prejudice is up for sale for ten grand. On #ThreadsDay, anyone want my character’s old socks for a fiver?”
