Tom’s abusive behaviour escalates next week on Emmerdale.
Last year, Tom (James Chase) showed signs of abusive behaviour when he pushed Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper), causing a cut on her head. She forgave him and the couple tied the knot in a romantic ceremony last month.
But it was only hours before Tom’s coercive behaviour came to the surface once more. He berated Belle for talking about her parents before making her sleep downstairs alone.

Tom once again managed to talk his way out of it and surprised Belle with a trip away for their honeymoon. But upon returning to the Dales, Tom’s abuse behaviour continued.
Next week Tom is stressed and irritable as he continues to criticise Belle for her decision to postpone having children. At the vets, Suzy (Martelle Edinborough) is surprise to find Belle working at the reception.
She mentions the job going at Take A Vow to an unaware Belle. Although she’s furious, Belle covers for Tom and pretends he passed on the message to her.
Later, Belle accuses Tom of lying to her. But he manages to talk his way out of it once again and appease her. Belle is delighted to accept the job, but Tom is immediately angered when Suzy describes Belle’s first client as her “perfect match”. The next day, at Marlon’s (Mark Charnock) party, Tom’s abuse escalates even further.
As Belle falls deeper into an abusive relationship, she becomes more alone as she chooses to keep it all a secret. Opening up on the devastating storyline, Eden said: “When we first heard from the producers the way the Tom and Belle relationship story was going to go, we were fully aware of the responsibility that would bring.
The 26-year-old added: “But it is an important story to tell. Soaps offer the viewer a glimpse of life behind closed doors and reveal what people present to the world isn’t always a truth.
“The sad reality is that behaviour like this in a relationship is all too prevalent. I hope we do this story justice. And if people are in a situation like this they should definitely get help.”
