Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway was forced to fight back tears as she supported her co-host during a heartbreaking segment.
During Thursday’s visit (June 27) to the ITV studios, the 57-year-old woke up the nation alongside her co-star Rob Rinder, 46. The duo delivered another stellar show where they discussed some of the biggest stories hitting the headlines.
This included the latest news following the final electoral debate between Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer and the successful drone show performed during the first night at Glastonbury. But arguably the most emotional segment of the morning was their interview with two grieving parents who bravely shared the passing of their teenage son.

Both hosts struggled to keep it together as they discussed the loss of Tara and Martin Cosser’s son Charlie last year. The 17-year-old was stabbed to death following a mass brawl at a farmhouse.
The incident happened at a £1.5million home 20 miles from his house after his parents let him go to a party after quizzing him about the celebratory bash.
The youngster, also known as ‘Cheeks’, suffered several stab wounds during the horror attack in Warnham, West Sussex. The culprit, aged 16 and found guilty of his murder, cannot be named because of his age.
The couple are now campaigning for tougher laws against knife crime in the UK and begged young people to think twice before carrying a blade. Rob, who also works as a criminal barrister, couldn’t help but get choked up as they discussed the story before interviewing the late teen’s parents.
Kate prefaced the interviewing by informing viewers: “You [Rob Rinder] did warn us you were going to get emotional.” But he wasn’t the only one struggling to keep the tears at bay as Kate tried not to crack during the tear-jerking segment.
She asked Martin: “Do you still feel he’s [Charlie’s] there? I mean is there still a connection, do you still want to go to your phone?” He could be heard saying: “Oh God” as Tara: “I still send him a message every morning and I tell him I love him.”
The heartbroken dad added: “I still open his door to see – I know he’s not there, but honestly it’s so hard.” Kate, who is no stranger to grief after losing her husband Derek Draper in January, empathised and said: “It doesn’t feel real” as she wiped a tear from her eye.
Rob then asked the Surrey-based couple to share their warning to youngsters who carry knives. Martin said: “My message is it doesn’t matter what your background is, it doesn’t matter where you live – working class or affluent area.
“Everybody has a choice. When you made the choice to take a knife out and plunge it into an innocent human being and take their life, death is final. We have a life sentence.
“We were a normal family – a kind, happy family. Charlie was a normal boy and it has destroyed our world because someone made that choice.” He added: “Please, please think twice about what you are doing because you can’t take it back.”
Good Morning Britain airs every day from 6am on ITV1 or catch up on ITVX.
