Susanna Reid has been left bemused following developments in the search to find missing teenager Jay Slater.
Reid, 53, returned to our screens on Tuesday (June 25) to present ITV morning show Good Morning Britain. She was at the helm of the show with regular relief presenter Adil Ray as the pair ran through the main stories making the headlines.
Amongst the big stories of the day was that of missing British man Jay Slater. The 19-year-old disappeared after reportedly trying to walk a 10-hour journey back to his accommodation following a three-day rave on the Spanish island of Tenerife.

The most recent development in the case saw that new CCTV footage captured a man, believed to be Jay, alive around ten hours after the teen had being reported missing over one week ago. As well as this, it was revealed that Slater’s good pal Lucy Mae was the last person to hear from him before his phone battery – which was reportedly at 1% – died.
Discussing the ongoing investigations with Adil, Susanna weighed in on the debates, saying that she would be equally frustrated if no one was able to find Jay. She also said she sympathised with Jay’s mum Debbie, who has been particularly affected by his disappearance.
“It is an utter mystery,” Susanna admitted. “As the mother of a teenager and three boys, it is your worst nightmare that the call comes through [saying] ‘my phone is about to die’ […] once that phone battery is gone, it’s impossible to trace him; honestly what on earth is happening?”
Reid’s frustrations then carried on to social media users online, who have sought to crack jokes to make light of the situation. Speaking to co-host Adil, she fumed: “It doesn’t help.” However, as Slater continues to remain missing, a second Brit missing in Tenerife has been located.
Local residents on the island raised the alarm to police about their concerns for a 51-year-old man from Scotland. The man had been walking near the village of Masca – a key search area for the Slater case – and was eventually found at the Asomada Gorge nearby.
In a statement, a police spokesperson said that mountain rescue teams were able to retrieve the man who had been trapped in the gorge, in the Los Carrizales area of the island. They added that residents had spotted the hiker entering an area that was not suitable to pass through early in the morning and called police soon after.
“They alerted officers who were at that moment involved in the search for young Jay Slater. He was found tired and disorientated by the officers and the rescue team who helped him out of the gorge,” the statement read, before the police thanked residents who flagged the man’s presence to them.
Good Morning Britain airs every weekday at 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
