Good Morning Britain fans fume as ITV host tells co-star she’s ‘put on weight’

Good Morning Britain viewers were left fuming after host Richard Madeley told ITV weathergirl Laura Tobin that she had “put on weight”.

On Wednesday’s episode (January 3), Richard made the comment as Laura explained she had been off work for a month. Though, on her first day back, Richard gave her a rather awkward introduction.

Richard said to her: “You’ve put on a lot of weight with the lack of exercise, haven’t you?… joking” Laura awkwardly laughed along with co-host Susanna Reid, who also broke into a fit of laughter, before saying: “Well you wouldn’t be the only one, Laura, because I ate for Britain.”

Laura then added that her comeback was a “few mince pies” and added: “I’m just going to take a long waddle across the studio later, Richard.” Richard then interjected: “We’re not getting on this morning, are we?”

However, viewers weren’t as jolly as Richard and found his comments unfair – with many taking to X to comment. One wrote: “Madeley /partridge trying his best to upset Laura today.”

A second added: “Madeley is bonkers!, ‘you put weight on over x’, what a k***.” While a third penned: “Richard literally has no tact he was so rude to Laura and encouraging Lorraine to drink when she just said she was doing dry January he really needs to go cos he’s offensive.”

Following Richard’s brash comments on her appearance, the meteorologist posted on social media to ask her followers whether she should snack on chocolate or a banana.

Laura looked lovely her on return and donned a figure-hugging green dress on her first day back to work. This comes after she enjoyed some time off-screen and celebrated her festive period partying with pals and spending quality time with her family.
