The TV presenter, 60, has fronted the globe-trotting series’ since 2017 but revealed she is too busy to continue this year. This is because Jane has a major UK tour coming up.

She told OK! Magazine: “I’ll be busy travelling on the tour bus and I’m just going to be in the United Kingdom. I’m going to have a break from the travel shows.

The British Soap Awards host added: “I like people to get excited when it comes on. I think, ‘Right, let’s rest it for a bit now.’ Fans shouldn’t worry too much as her upcoming series The Canary Islands With Jane McDonald will kick off on Friday (January 5) at 8pm.

In the new programme, Jane heads on an island-hopping adventure across the Canary Islands to explore the hidden treasures of each destination. During the hour-long show, the presenter embarks on plenty of excursions, visiting the old town of La Oratava, jumping the waves at Siam Park and taking the eight minute cable car with local Steve up Mount Teide.

Despite hitting 60, Jane doesn’t let her age get in the way of her fun-filled activities while abroad. She said: “I like a good laugh and I would never really do these things because I think we blame age. We say, ‘Oh I can’t do that at my age.’ So I’m really pleased I’ve had the opportunities that I’ve had.”

It comes after Jane opened up about her late fiancé Eddie Rothe, admitting she still talks to him three years after his death. Jane and musician Eddie first dated in their teens before reuniting in 2008.

They got engaged later that year but their love story was cut short when Eddie, who was a drummer for Merseybeat group The Searchers, died of lung cancer in 2021. The TV favourite opened up about her grief as she reflected on the loss of her partner and her mum, who passed away in December 2018.

Jane’s best friend Sue moved in with her last year

“I do shed the occasional tear and especially at new year. That’s when it hits me,” she told OK! Magazine. “If the two of them are looking down on me, I honestly think they wouldn’t want me to be lost in sadness wondering what to do with the rest of my life.”

Jane added: “I still talk to both of them in my head.” She leaned on best friend Sue Ravey, who moved into her home last year. The singer said: “It helped keep the grief at bay, I tend to grieve in private. But you can’t always be sure when it’s going to strike. Your emotions can ambush you.”
