Katy Perry was forced to duck for cover after suffering a wardrobe malfunction live on American Idol.
The 39-year old hid behind her desk after a huge part of her top broke off during contestant Roman Collins’ performance. It prompted host Ryan Seacrest to quip: “Katy, don’t cut yourself!”.
The top in question saw Katy stun in a metallic looking ensemble with sharp edges. “I need my top to stay on!” Katy yelled in response to the mishap. “If it’s not fixed, this show is going to get more than it wanted.”

Thankfully, following a helping hand from the show’s production team, Katy was able to regain her composure after initially protecting her modesty with a cushion.
She then told Roman after he sang It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World by James Brown: “That song… um… broke my top off… I guess it is a woman’s world!”
Katy’s fellow judge Luke Bryan added: “Ratings, ratings, ratings! Here we come, ratings!” Katy joked: “It’s a family show!” Luke then told Roman: “You literally have the ability to blow the roof off the place.” And Katy hilarioulsy injected: “Or a top!”
Katy shared footage of the incident to her Instagram account afterwards, which she simply captioned: “My top broke #idol.” Criticising her outfit, one of her 290 million followers slammed: “Maybe try wearing proper clothes rather than dressing as the tin man!?”
Another penned: “Maybe don’t wear a f***ing ship anchor to a tv show.” And a third said: “That’s not a top, it’s a car bumper.”
Others fought the Roar singer’s corner, however, with one gushing lustfully: “Ohh trust me… you’d look better with it off.” A second said: “You are always the star of the show.” And a third added: “Mom, u should create a broadcast channel. Just saying.”
Earlier this year, Katy revealed she will stand down from the ABC show later this year after seven years. She unexpectedly announced the news during an interview on US chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live. Idol is reportedly lining up Miley Cyrus as a replacement.
