Love Island twins Jess and Eve Gale have been spotted on the streets of London, handing out free Airpods to lucky passers-by.
This comes after a study revealed that a staggering 13 million sets of headphones have gone missing in the UK over the past five years.
The reality TV stars, both 25, embarked on this mission to help busy city dwellers who’ve lost just one earbud, saving them from having to buy an entirely new set.

The twins, who shot to fame on the first winter season of ITV’s hit show in South Africa, expressed their surprise at how many people lose just one earbud on the Tube, during a night out or even down the loo.
They said: “I just can’t believe how many people had lost just one on the Tube, on a night out, down the toilet it’s crazy. People couldn’t believe that they could get just one AirPod instead of buying a whole new set.”
Jess and Eve also highlighted the environmental benefits of their initiative, pointing out that buying a single replacement earphone rather than a full new set is “great for the planet” and prevents the waste of discarding a perfectly good earpiece.
Their generous act follows the shocking findings of the study, which found that a whopping 32% of adults have misplaced their earphones in the past five years.
A study conducted by YouGov on behalf of the refurbished tech marketplace, Back Market which sells individual AirPods to prevent the need for buying a complete new set when one is lost has revealed some interesting findings.
The majority of earphones were misplaced at home (38%), while almost a quarter (23%) disappeared on the streets. Other frequent locations where people lost their AirPods included buses, workplaces, gyms, or during nights out.
Young adults aged between 18-24 were identified as the most negligent with their earphones, with over half (52%) losing one, and 12% of the same group confessed to losing five or more pairs in the last five years. Considering that over half (57%) of UK adults currently use wireless headphones, it’s not surprising that so many earpieces are getting lost.
Among the wireless headphone users, over a quarter (27%) have lost a single earpiece, leading to the majority (47%) purchasing a new set, while a fifth (18%) discarded the remaining single earphone.
To tackle the problem of electronic waste, Back Market is now offering single refurbished earphones and AirPods, all of which have been cleaned, professionally refurbished and sterilised. Not only is this environmentally friendly, but the global marketplace can also help reduce costs with a refurbished single 3rd generation AirPod priced at £59, compared to a new set costing you £169.
Eve gushed about the update, saying: “I love the idea of being able to buy a singular headphone as I know all too well the frustration of losing just one of your AirPods and having to buy a whole new pair.”
Research has revealed that a whopping 88% of adults were clueless about the option to snag a single earphone, while nearly half (40%) would jump at the chance to save some dosh, and a good 26% would consider it to cut down on waste.
Luke Forshaw, who’s the big cheese in UK Marketing at Back Market, chimed in with: “The simple message from us is that there’s no need for a dumping when you lose a solo earphone, we have heaps of refurbished earphones for you to recouple with.”
“As a B-Corp business, we’re always looking for ways we can help the planet, and will continue to offer innovative solutions that support the environment, while offering great value to our customers.”
