He is best known as the hunky frontman from the hit noughties band, McFly.
And it’s fair to say Tom Fletcher has only gone from strength to strength since then. The musician grew an enormous fanbase with the band’s hit singles such as Five Colours in her Hair, Obviously and All About You.
At the height of their career, the group would regularly perform at sold-out venues up and down the country. In 2013, he sent fans wild after the dad-of-three merged the band with fellow pop group Buster to form McBusted.
But what fans may not know is that this wasn’t the star’s first brush with fame. As the singer celebrates his 38th birthday, Daily Star has taken a deep dive inside his long-forgotten roles.

This week, fans could hardly believe their eyes after one eagle-eyed viewer spotted the singer in a sex education video that he landed at the start of his career. Taking to Reddit, they recalled watching the video in school in the mid 2000s when they were learning about the birds and the bees.
They wrote: “Did anyone else watch Tom Fletcher in an educational video called HIV: Risky Business while at school? I would have watched it in school at around 2009.
“It followed a few characters (some couples, some friends) who took part in activities which could transmit HIV (i.e. unprotected sex, sharing a razor, etc). Tom’s character, who’s hosting, said that one person in the video was HIV positive.
“The supposed revelation was that it was Tom, with the moral being that it could be anyone.” Fans immediately swarmed to the comments section to confirm the musicians identity as they shared their memories of the clip online.
One user penned: “YES! I’ve been telling everyone about this video and no one believed me! Glad I wasn’t going mad.” Another agreed: “Yes, I remember this! I would have watched it around 2007 or 2008.”
A third echoed: “I asked this exact same question today & found it on YouTube. The only thing we could talk about at school was that Tom from McFly was in a sex ed video [cry-laughing emoji].”
But this wasn’t the only surprising opportunity the performer took on as a child. When the star was just 10 years old, he landed the main role in Oliver! at the London Palladium alongside actor Jim Dale who played Fagin.
He also made a small appearance in the music video for the Mike + The Mechanics hit single Over My Shoulder. Loyal fans will know that the star attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School in London where he met his future wife Giovanna Fletcher at the age of 13.
Tom was also schoolmates with Busted bassist Matt Willis and even auditioned to be a part of band. But due to the record label believing the pop group would do better as a trio instead of a quartet, he was removed from the group.
But that wasn’t enough to get rid of the singer-songwriter for good, after he was recruited as part of the band’s song-writing team. Whilst Busted were recording their second album, Tom was asked to audition for a new pop group which eventually led to the formation of McFly.
The band even landed a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records in 2004, after they broke The Beatle’s record for ‘The youngest band to have a debut album go straight to number one’. But he didn’t just write music for McFly and Busted.
He has also written songs for The Vamps, One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer. Tom is now an established children’s author and he has even collaborated with his bandmate Dougie Poynter.
The pair published The Dinosaur that Pooped Christmas in 2012 which was the most popular children’s book released that year. It has been reported that Tom has a staggering net worth of £3.5million thanks to his numerous hit singles, song writing credits and award-winning books.
