‘My Turkish fiancé loves to be babied – but I’m worried he’s using me to make millions’

90 Day Fiancé UK kicks off this month – and some couples are in for a pretty rough ride.

Sam, a dancer from Newcastle, and Turkish barman Ali are one of the couples set to star on this season of the Discovery+ show. Sam, 28, met 23-year-old Ali while she was on holiday in Marmaris, though they were forced to go long-distance when she jetted back to the UK.

Sam later discovered Ali’s reputation for being a bit of a playboy in the beach resort, and the series will see her pack up and head back to Turkey to discover if it’s true love once and for all. Ali’s dreams of making millions in the UK are well documented – and Sam’s had plenty of warnings from friends and family about risking it all to be with him.

Now the couple have sat down exclusively with Daily Star to chat about what viewers can expect from the upcoming series. Sam revealed she actually “cringed” during their first meeting – and said she never went on holiday looking for love in the first place.

The Geordie dancer said: “I actually cringed. When I first met Ali he made this big announcement – he was working at the bar and he shouted at the top of his voice, ‘Everybody stop and look, here is my angel!’ Absolutely cringe, because that’s not what I went on holiday for! I just thought, ‘Oh, here’s another joker’. It was really weird, but ever since then we seem to be all right.”

Sparks quickly flew between the pair, with Ali confessing: “For me it was an unexpected person at an unexpected time. She just came and stayed, took all my focus all the time. It was very, very fast.”

Sam went on to explain: “I don’t think I had any initial concerns at the beginning – I had rose tinted glasses on, in a way. But my friend had a Turkish boyfriend before and hers didn’t go very well. In a way I was shocked I was going down the same path, but equally happy at the same time. She had lots of advice for me – not that I’ve listened to a lot of it.

“My family… I only really speak to my mum and she was on holiday at the same time when I met Ali. She wasn’t too bothered because she could see that I was happy, but she obviously had her concerns. Did I listen to them? Who knows!” she joked.

Sam says Ali “loves to be babied” in a relationship, with him stating that he’s after “attention, love and cuddles” from a partner. He said of Sam: “It’s her every tiny detail for me [that I love].”

Sam said: “He’s such a baby, that’s why – he loves to be babied, and cuddled. It’s his personality. I don’t know if his culture has an impact on the way he is or not but he’s very attentive, everything is always about the woman, it’s not always about him, so that’s good. He listens to me – I am the boss.”

But one major concern addressed in the show is whether Ali just wants to get to the UK to make his millions. He said: “I want to work a lot, save more, make something… It’s just like a wish for everyone, everyone wants money so everyone works all day. I’m just gonna save, that’s all! I need first of all to go to the UK so I can see what will earn more money, see which job is better. I hear something, yes, but now I have to see.”

And it might help that Sam has a “very well paying” job… She said: “I always say ‘We can live anywhere in the world, effectively’, but I would need reasons for certain countries and he would need reasons for certain countries.

“But the idea of living in Turkey – people think it’s like a holiday but it’s not, you’ve got to work so hard, and the money is so different. My job, I get paid very well, so I wouldn’t give up my job. If I could take it with me, I would live anywhere in the world.”

90 Day Fiancé UK is available to stream from Monday 27th May exclusively on discovery+
