Netflix fans say ’15/10′ series is better than Game of Thrones – and critics agree

A Netflix series that fans are rating as a ’15/10′ is being praised as ‘better than’ Game of Thrones. And critics seem to agree, having rated it higher than the fantasy series on review site Rotten Tomatoes.

While Game of Thrones fanatics have the prequel House of the Dragon to enjoy, we’re always on the hunt for the next big hit. The series, based on George R. R. Martin A Song Of Ice And Fire novels, spanned eight seasons, first premiering in 2011.

Since it ended in 2019, there’s been a void in our lives. House of the Dragon swooped in to save the day in 2022, with its second season airing weekly from July to August this year.

But now that it’s come to its conclusion, instead of rewatching Game of Thrones for the umpteenth time, fans can try something different. The Last Kingdom, which initially aired on the BBC before Netflix took over, consists of five seasons. Fans can also watch a feature-length film, The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die, which is currently available for streaming, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Set in ninth and tenth century England, it depicts the power struggle between the Saxons and the Danes. The first series adapts the initial two novels of Bernard Cornwell’s The Saxon Stories, The Last Kingdom and The Pale Horseman.

It portrays the arrival of the Great Heathen Army in England led by Guthrum and Ubba Ragnarsson, altering the dynamics between Vikings and Anglo-Saxons. The series features Alexander Dreymon as Uhtred, ruler of Bamburgh and David Schofield as his advisor, Abbot Eadred. Joseph Milson, Eliza Butterworth, Millie Brady and Toby Regbo also star.

Anyone who hasn’t watched this show is genuinely missing out..”

Some fans even claimed it surpasses Game of Thrones. @olusholatash stated: “This show is better than Game of Thrones and Vikings put together! ! No unnecessary plot twist, direct and relatable… makes alot of sense and not unnecessarily long, just five seasons! The Last Kingdom is 15/10 rating! ” and @EndogenicN01se agreed: “The Last Kingdom is better than Game of Thrones btw”.

The series received an impressive 91 percent rating from critics on review site Rotten Tomatoes. In comparison, Game of Thrones achieved an average critics score of 89%.

All five seasons of The Last Kingdom and The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die are available to stream now on Netflix.
