Netflix’s Under Paris breaks internet as film fans have ‘never been so divided’

Netflix has caused arguments across the internet with its newest horror flick.

Under Paris was recently released onto the streaming service and some viewers can’t stop raving about the flick while others slammed the project. Over in the Netflix Bangers group on Facebook, fans gathered to talk about the shark themed movie that has taken over our screens.

One person posted: “10/10 film, defo recommend!!” as others rushed to the comment section to say they “love this movie”. However, another person was less than impressed: “I was actually liking it until the end and it’s one of the worst endings I’ve seen!”

A third streamer added: “Was ok. Not Jaws but watchable after [a] bottle [of] wine [laughing emoji]. Need a really scary shark movie to watch,” as others commented “terrible movie,” “low budget” and “rubbish”.

Under Paris has caused shockwaves across the internet

The polarising comments left one viewer totally confused: “Never [seen] so many different opinions on one film, so is it bad or good[?] Lol.” 70 comments were added underneath as Netflix fans fought over their views.

One tried to persuade them by saying the film is “really good” and urged the poster “don’t listen to everyone saying it’s rubbish”. However, another person tried to join the conversation and called Under Paris “boring and cliche”.

The film was released on Netflix on 5 June

The divisive horror action film was released on the streaming platform on 5 June and ever since, the internet has exploded with differing views. The official Netflix explanation for the movie reads: “In order to save Paris from an international bloodbath, a grieving scientist is forced to face her tragic past when a giant shark appears in the Seine.”

The creature feature follows a scientist tracking a giant shark

The film stars Bérénice Bejo, Nassim Lyes and Léa Léviant, and follows Sophia as she tracks a rare specimen of mako shark that has grown beyond normal measurements when her team is slaughtered. Years later, Sophia is asked to stop the same shark as it makes its way into the famous French river.

Mixed reviews have circulated online and the IMDb rating currently sits at 5.3/10, Rotten Tomatoes is at 59% and IGN is at 5/10.
