Patrick Swayze’s wife helped him improve a steamy scene.
The beloved actor became one of the hottest men in Hollywood thanks to sensational hit films including Ghost and Point Break. But it’s fair to say the professional dancer was best known for his role in the 1987 romantic comedy Dirty Dancing.
Two years later, he was catapulted to stardom when he flashed the flesh in the cult classic Road House. The actor was supported throughout his entire career by his loving wife Lisa Niemi who was also a trained dancer.

As fans celebrate what would have been the actor’s 72nd birthday on Sunday (August 18), Daily Star has taken a deep dive inside his relationship with his wife and the assistance she offered him in front of and behind the camera.
The happy couple tied the knot in 1975 and they only went from strength to strength. But that didn’t mean they didn’t face their own struggles.
They managed to overcome the external pressures of Hollywood and Swayze’s battles with alcoholism and poor mental health. The blonde bombshell supported him through it all, and even gave her two cents on his film scripts.
Few realised that Patrick and Lisa both worked tirelessly together behind-the-scenes on all his projects, including Dirty Dancing. In his touching autobiography The Time of My Life, Swayze thanked his wife for her contributions, even to things he didn’t necessarily want to acknowledge such as script issues and uncomfortable bonk scenes.
He wrote: “Whether rewriting scripts or honing my performance, she and I have worked together on every movie I have ever done – she had an amazing ear for dialogue, a great sense of story and knows how to zero in on performance. More importantly, she’s absolutely truthful, even if it’s something I don’t want to hear.”
The pair even added an extra scene into Dirty Dancing, where Johnny has a fight with the sleazy waiter. But they didn’t stop there, the duo then stayed up all night polishing his final big speech in the movie.
Two years later, when the star landed the leading role in Road House, Swayze found himself struggling to feel the intimacy of a crucial romp scene with his co-star Kelly Lynch. Thankfully, Lisa coached her husband on how to be sexier and wilder in the passionate scene.
She worked with him on intensifying his chemistry with Lynch and the physicality of their intimate scenes. In fact, the final scenes became so physically demanding, that the actress had to request padding to be added to her costume to prevent an injury.
Lynch told AV Club: “They really liked everything about the way that scene looked, with the blonde hair against the rocks behind me, but I was like, ‘Isn’t this kind of… mean?’
“So they put a thin padding under my dress, so you can’t see it. But he’s still slamming me against the rocks, so I had to be careful not to hit my head.
“Thank God Patrick was so strong. He could’ve carried me around that room forever.” And it’s fair to say that this famous scene has haunted Lynch ever since, thanks to a running gag between actor Bill Murray and her husband, writer and producer Mitch Glazer.
She added: “Every time Road House is on and he or one of his idiot brothers are watching TV – and they’re always watching TV – one of them calls my husband and says (in a reasonable approximation of Carl Spackler from Caddyshack), ‘Kelly’s having sex with Patrick Swayze right now. They’re doing it. He’s throwing her against the rocks.”
