Romesh Ranganathan clears up Art Attack rumours as he ‘confirms’ future on The One Show

Comedian Romesh Ranganathan has hilariously shut down the whispers about him taking over as host of Art Attack, making it crystal clear that he’s not stepping into Neil Buchanan’s shoes.

On Tuesday (September 3), the funnyman graced BBC’s The One Show with his presence to chat about his latest ventures. Hosts Alex Jones and Roman Kemp couldn’t resist probing into the telly rumours that have been buzzing around.

Roman cheekily asked: “We did hear a rumour that you were bringing back Art Attack? ” But Romesh’s comeback was unexpected, revealing the nasty side of internet trolls.

Romesh replied: “Thank you for asking me that, I’m not. I’m not bringing back Art Attack, what I have done though is been subjected to terrible levels of online abuse.”

He didn’t hold back, adding: “People going to me ‘How dare you try to replace Neil Buchanan? ‘ The main reason is that I don’t care about talking about my shows, I just want to say to the camera, I am not doing Art Attack,” reports the Mirror.

“I’m not replacing Neil Buchanan, I respect what he did. I would never step on his legacy in that way! Please stop at’ing me, alright.” The comic then explained how the whole mix-up kicked off on Facebook after someone floated the idea of him fronting the show.

Back in July, The Sun appeared to stir the pot by claiming that the Weakest Link star was set to present a fresh take on the beloved kids’ art programme which began in the 90s.

A telly insider claimed at the time: “Like millions of Brits who grew up in the Nineties and Noughties, Romesh was no doubt a fan of the show.”

“So now he’s passing that joy on to the next generation with this modern-day interpretation, which is destined for a major children’s network, probably Children’s BBC. It will be something of a departure for Ranga Bee however as they tend to make comedy shows, usually starring their owner, Mr Ranganathan, himself.”

Art Attack, a beloved afternoon show centred around art and crafting original pieces, was hosted by Neil Buchanan on CITV from 1990 to 2007, before being taken over by Lloyd Warbey on Disney Junior from 2012 to 2015.

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
