Burna Boy admits to problems working with Mick Jagger until ‘humble’ breakthrough

Mick Jagger couldn’t get No Satisfaction when he worked with Burna Boy.

The Rolling Stones legend is an unlikely feature on the Afrobeat star’s new LP, but it took a few attempts before they found a track up to Mick’s high standards.

Burna Boy, real name Damini, spilled: “I made a few songs just for him but then none of the ones I made just for him ended up working, he didn’t even like those ones, he liked this one.”

In the end Dartford rocker Mick connected to the lyrics of Burna’s tune Empty Chairs – a song about rising to stardom from humble beginnings.

He told KISS XTRA: “It’s something he can relate to coming from where he’s coming from and being who he is, he’s gone through that stage obviously and he’s seen the transitions and everything, he’s been through all that.

“If anybody understood what that song stood for it would be Mick Jagger.”

The Jagger hook-up came thanks to well-connected model pal Naomi Campbell:

“It’s mad, I remember I was with Naomi Campbell and I just said it to her, it was random, and she was like, ‘yeah you should call him’ and then she did!”

Burna Boy celebrated the release of his new album No Sign Of Weakness at Wireless festival where he joined Drake on stage.

“It hurt me to have to do that, because I know that I don’t tour all the time, it’s been 6 years since I toured and I know that I look forward to that, you guys look forward to that, my fans look forward to that, I look forward to these moments so much, I do.

“And it was a tough summer for me and for my kids but I promised them and more importantly I wanted to show them that you can go through hard things in life, and things may not turn out the way you think they’re gonna turn out.

“But you can come out the other side and be stronger and better and more amazing than ever, you can!

“And you can always climb out of the wreckage.”
