Gladiators viewers have been left gutted after finding out the semi-finals of the BBC One show has been pushed back in order to make way for FA Cup footy coverage
Gladiators fans have been left gutted as the show has been dropped from the BBC’s weekend schedule.
BBC viewers are used to tuning into BBC One every Saturday at 7pm for the latest episode of its rebooted Gladiators – where the daughter of boxing legend Frank Bruno recently showed off her athletic prowess. However, they’ll be met with disappointment tonight (March 29) if they’re expecting to see the semi-finals.
The latest episode has been dropped in order to make way for coverage of the FA Cup quarter-final between Brighton and Nottingham Forest. The BBC’s FA Cup coverage will kick off at 5pm normal programming won’t resume until 7.30pm, when soap fans can get their latest fix of Casualty.
Gladiators will be back next weekend, Saturday April 5. The Gladiators Instagram account announced: “We’re back on your TV screens Saturday 5th April, when our Semi-Finals conclude. In the meantime, catch up on every episode so far on @bbciplayer! #Gladiators.”
Fans were left gutted by the disruption, with one writing: “What are we supposed to do without Sabre Saturdays??”. Another said: “Get rid of the football. Gladiators is better!”.
“WTF!!! No Gladiators today! Fumin’ell,” complained one fan on X, formerly Twitter. A third added: “Great no #Gladiators tonight as bloody football on again”.
The tenth episode of season two will conclude the semi-finals. A synopsis of the episode reads: “Bradley and Barney Walsh return to host the all-action competition, as another set of contenders take on the Gladiators in five brutal events before they face the Eliminator.”
The final of this year’s series will air on April 12. Gym owner Amanda, from Warrington, and Joe F, from Scarborough, are already confirmed as finalists.
It comes after more disruption to the BBC’s schedule due to Comic Relief. The Comic Relief special aired from 7pm on Friday (March 21) replaced BBC One’s usual offerings, such as The One Show, and The Death in Paradise finale was pushed back to yesterday (March 28).
The Red Nose Day special saw Inbetweeners stars James Buckley and Joe Thomas play formerly feuding Oasis brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher for the big sketch. James said he is a “huge Oasis fan” and that playing Liam was “a dream come true”.
“I had such a fun time with Joe, making this sketch for Comic Relief, and was honoured to be asked to be a part of it,” he added. Joe said it was “both thrilling a nerve wracking” to do the sketch, adding: “I grew up watching Comic Relief and the big sketch was always a highlight of the night.”
The Inbetweeners ran from 2008 until 2010 and starred James and Joe alongside Simon Bird (Will McKenzie) and Blake Harrison (Neil Sutherland). The series was turned into two films – one in 2011 and another in 2014.
Joe has said talks of an Inbetweeners revival have “happened in various forms” – during a chat on James Gill’s Always Be Comedy podcast. He said: “All of us feel it would be nice to do. We’re all still around, we’re all still in each other’s lives. We all still like each other.”
“And if it was something that came up, I think we would want to do it. I feel like we all still really like each other. We’ve all been able to go away and get various monkeys off our backs, in terms of things that we felt we needed to do other than The Inbetweeners to prove something to ourselves.”
