Katie Price has opened up about the difficulty she faced taking her son Harvey back to residential college, admitting she feared she’d have “no car left”
Katie Price has shared her heartache over dropping her son Harvey back to college.
The 46-year-old mum-of-five had to take her eldest son Harvey, 22, back to his residential college in Cheltenham. She has recently opened up about the concerns she has for her eldest son, who requires round-the-clock care due to his complex health conditions.
Harvey lives with Prader-Willi syndrome, autism, and septo-optic dysplasia, which affects his vision. Katie has also expressed her worries about Harvey’s weight which she says is “life-threatening” – Prader-Willi Syndrome can cause rapid weight gain as one symptom is a constant feeling of hunger.
Harvey enrolled at National Star College in 2021, but Katie has recently revealed her plans to move him closer to her – as the college is a three hour drive away from Katie’s Sussex home. Sadly, Katie felt heartache before driving her son back to college after he stayed with her for two weeks as he didn’t want to go back.
Speaking on the latest episode of her podcast, The Katie Price Show, Katie said: “When I took him back to college, Soph, it broke my heart. He just so didn’t want to go and I said: ‘We have to go back to get your meds Harv’ and as we were getting near it he was going, ‘Mum, Harvey’s so sad. I’m so angry’, and I’m like, ‘Why Harv’ – obviously I know why.
“‘College, I miss Mummy. Mummy’s the best’. And then I thought I’d have no car left he was trying to kick the car door backwards. And then, the college phoned me and said, ‘Harvey said you’re picking him up in a week and he’s not coming back here now, is that true?’ I said, ‘No that’s not true’.”
She added: “And they phoned me and said, ‘He keeps saying you’re getting him in a week and he’s not coming back to college again’ and I said, ‘No he’s pulling the strings on you’.”
Sophie asked: “How long has he got left at college now?” Before Katie revealed plans to move him to a facility closer to her. It appears the star has already chosen a new place for Harvey to live, but it isn’t ready to move into just yet. Katie explained: “We’re just waiting for it to finish – the build – it should be next month now because it’s a brand new…
“They’re doing the whole place, you know what it’s like on as building site things go on longer. He’s just outgrown, just does not want to be there. And then, one of them phoned me and said – the one he likes there – said, ‘Yeah he’s really angry, he’s hit me twice, he’s kicked me in the leg. He’s never gone for me’.
“That’s how angry he is. He just hates it there and I hate it but then I’ve had him for two weeks on tour I need a bit of a [break] as well, do you know what I mean.” Katie then admitted how tough it is to look after Harvey at times as she continued: “He’s worse than a newborn. He’s worse than a toddler. It’s full-on as you know, constant.”
Luckily, Katie’s found a new place for Harvey to stay. Speaking about it, she added: “So when he moves to the new place, I can’t wait. It’s literally one stop [on the] train away and he’s literally up the road – 25 minute, half an hour drive. I think the fact that it’s his own place and it won’t be like, when I say clinical kind of thing, because when he’s at college he has to have special furniture and all of this there, incase he breaks…
“But this new one I’m gonna make a home from home – proper sofa, not constructed, special furniture, like, you know a proper bed that hasn’t got padding on. Grown up, so it feels grown up for him. And then I’ll see him all the time. Even if he comes out in the car with me he doesn’t care he just wants to come out and I can take him and do things and, obviously, he’s gonna be starting that Munjaro and he’ll start getting a new lease of life. The more weight he loses…”
Sophie added: “Yeah he’ll be able to do more.” Katie replied: “Yeah, Junior, he’ll give you a run for your money!”
Katie wants to put her son Harvey on a weight-loss drug to help assist with Harvey’s weight loss, after the star revealed Harvey weighs almost 30 stone. Speaking about Harvey’s weight recently, Katie revealed on Snapchat: “I’m so heartbroken and gutted that his weight is just going up.
She continued: “I just googled it in stones, 188kg is just a few kg of being 30 stone. It’s so life-threatening now, I’m still waiting for the doctors to get back to me starting on the mounjaro and his journey to a healthy life.”
Katie continued: “It’s so sad his quality of life at the moment where he’s so big, he just can’t really do much. It’s just another thing I have to deal with because he’s at high risk of having a heart attack, he struggles to put his trainers or struggles to walk anywhere but I love him and I’m going to help him through this.”
