Comedian Peter Kay reportedly threatened to kick out some noisy fans causing a disturbance at his show at London’s O2 Arena, weeks after he mocked a heckler in Manchester
Peter Kay has been having more trouble with noisy fans at his comedy gigs.
The 51-year-old comedian was forced to remove two hecklers from his Manchester gig last month. He came under fire for comparing one of the hecklers, a female fan, to Emmerdale star Lisa Riley as she got escorted out by secrurity.
In a statement on social media, he insisted he had tried to ignore the fans but had to boot them out as it was “impossible to continue” with his routine. However, it seems the heckling saga on his Better Late Than Never tour has continued.
Kay threatened to eject more audience members from his show at London’s O2 Arena on Thursday evening (March 20). He halted his gig and addressed the noisy fans, telling them security would remove them if they keep disturbing the gig.
According to the Mirror, he jokingly asked if they looked like Lisa Riley, a nod to the drama at his Manchester show. “Is it them in that box?,” he asked. “Is that them? Who is it? Eh, it’s you monkeys there.
“Now then, what are we going to do with you now? These people in this area now, do any of you look like Lisa Riley? No, alright,” as the crowd burst out laughing.
In jest, he dared the rowdy audience member to jump from their box to see if they would “bounce”. He asked the crowd if hecklers were annoying them, to which they cheered as a signal that this was the case.
The comic insisted he was “not getting involved this time” and asked audience members in the area to raise their hands if the male hecklers were ‘p****ing them off’. He said: “I’m going to leave it to the security team to go up there and sort it out,”
He joked: “Nah, you can carry on, but if you’re rambunctious, you’re going home early… you naughty boys.” A fan at the gig told the Mirror that Peter “poked fun at the idea” of kicking the hecklers out.
The audience member said Kay referenced the hecklers twice in the show as they “kept shouting” and compared the situation to a “boot sale”. They added that fans in the area wanted Peter to kick them out of the show.
Last month, Kay addressed the saga at his gig at Manchester’s AO Arena on February 8. He wrote: “At the show on Saturday night, February 8th, in Manchester, I had two hecklers disrupting from the very start. I did my best to address the situation and made light of it, as any comedian would. But unfortunately, their interruptions continued.
“I then tried to ignore them, hoping they’d settle down, but when the disruption persisted into the second half of the show, I asked the audience around them if they were bothered by the noise.
“They all shouted ‘yes’ and when I asked for a show of hands, at least forty people raised theirs. At that point, I had no choice but to take action.”
The Phoenix Nights star insisted his comparison to Lisa Riley wasn’t an “insult” and that the female audience member simply looked a lot like the actress. “The lady who was escorted out did bear a striking resemblance to Lisa Riley, though I don’t see how that’s an insult,” he said.
Myar Curran, the female fan compared to the actress, said she is “annoyed and upset” by Kay’s dig. Riley herself has said she’s “not offended” by the joke.
She told fans: “Please draw a line under this now. I am not offended, never was offended. I love Peter Kay to pieces. Laughter is my favourite medicine.” However, Myar Curran, the fan, said she is “annoyed and upset” by it.
