According to reports, Pope Francis improvised the six minute scene’s dialogue and co-director Gilio once told The Hollywood Reporter: “He is used to having cameras in front of him now. He would advise [the crew] and be like: ‘The light is better this way’.”

Pope Francis sadly died on 21 April aged 88-years-old. His funeral was held today [26 April] and since Wednesday, an incredible 130,000 people have visited his coffin to pay their respects.

The Pope requested to be buried in a simple wooden coffin made of zinc. Previously, Papal funerals have used three coffins with the Pope places in a coffin of cypress wood, the lead, then oak.

Pope Francis was clear about breaking traditions with his funeral and previously said he wanted to be “laid out and buried like any son or daughter of the church”.

“With dignity, but not on cushions. In my opinion, the ritual was too ornate.”

Pope Francis is also set to be buried in Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica in Rome’s Esquilino neighbourhood, which is not in the Vatican where the other Popes are laid to rest.

Previous Popes have all been buried in a grotto underground, beneath St Peter’s Basilica.
