Rapper Central Cee ditches one thing for several days to de-stress and feels ‘great’

Just like Ed Sheeran, rapper Central Cee prefers to go off grid and is known for ditching his phone for a week at a time so he can de-stress and focus on his performances

Viral rapper Central Cee turns off his phone for seven days to find the “stillness” to perform.

The chart-topping Londoner AKA Cench recorded his mega gig at The O2 in London recently for an Apple Music Live special. To ensure it went hitch free he steered clear of doom-scrolling, despite finding fame on social media.

Cee explained: “I’ve turned my phone off for seven days straight before… and I feel great. It’s mad. I was stressing, because… O2, it’s a big day. But I’m trying to focus on the show, this and that, so I’m stressed. I was looking at my phone, texting, and then I lifted off (switched off). And straight away, I just found calmness in my head and I could un-puzzle whatever was going on in my head. There’s a lesson there for everyone!”

The performance is available for streaming now exclusively on Apple Music.

He added: “The O2, that’s probably a dream for anyone. It’s the reward that you get from taking a risk, innit?”

Now he wants to take the production around the world and maybe turn it into a West End show. He added: “There’s a bit in the show, on Day in the Life where the mandem are chilling up there and there’s something going on in a cafe down there, and they kind of go on a robbery.

“I could have done a whole show like that, that kind of a feel. Yeah [it’s like the West End], Broadway thing. I would’ve done that.”

The next 12 months involve more touring but after that it could be time to start a family? Asked about the future Cee replied: “Having kids and just raising kids and little things. I’ve seen my gran and…my mum get gassed when she’s put a seed in the ground and her tomatoes come up. … I’ll live a life and have a life.”

NOS Alive, Portugal

CMAT performs at NOS Alive in Portugal (Image: PR)

Temperatures really did soar at NOS Alive in Lisbon, Portugal – and some artists struggled with the heat.

In fact, the biggest surprise at the music bash was seeing Benson Boone with his top on. “I am very sunburnt. I had to cover up because I look like a lobster,” he explained.

Fortunately it didn’t affect the pop hunk’s ability to perform his trademark flips. Benson, folk fave Noah Kahan and DJ Barry Can’t Swim – a standout – warmed up the crowd nicely for headliner Olivia Rodrigo’s absolute scorcher of a set. Day two of NOS Alive didn’t disappoint either, despite Sam Fender having to cancel at the last-minute.

French electro legends Justice shone bright, their ground-shuddering beats (club classics D.A.N.C.E and We Are Your Friends never fail to get the tootsies tapping) accompanied by a dazzling light show. Not to be left in the shadows, St Vincent rocked it out the park, as she let rip with belters Flea and Pay Your Way in Pain.

Finishing on a high, CMAT might’ve been the event’s MVP. Camp, cheeky and charming, the Irish star worked her magic with I Wanna Be A Cowboy, Baby! and the brilliantly bonkers The Jamie Oliver Petrol Station. She got plus points for scoffing local delicacy pastel de nata on stage. Dab hands Muse were the perfect appetiser for curtain-closers Nine Inch Nails, with Trent Reznor and co serving an eardrum-busting masterclass.

Lewis Capaldi recalls ‘awkward’ encounter with Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton couldn’t understand Lewis Capaldi’s Scottish accent(Image: INSTAGRAM)

Dolly Parton had to work 9-5 to simply understand what Lewis Capaldi was saying when they met. A recent encounter between the Scot and country icon became a little awkward when something was lost in translation.

Asked how Dolly was Lewis gushed: “She was great, she was lovely, she was so good. And she really struggled to understand what I was saying, I believe, as most people in America do. But she was very polite, she was lovely, it was a bit of a dream come true!”

Perhaps it’s the reason why Lew’s comeback single Survive is “underperforming”, as he put it, in the States. Good job he’s out there in his Celtic kit trying to put that right! Nailed it, indeed.
