Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs’ mum has been slapped with a lawsuit by former Bad Boy Entertainment president after a “violent incident” where he was intimidated to hand over his shares of the label
Janice Combs, mother of music mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, has been hit with a lawsuit accusing her of fraud by Kirk Burrowes, former co-founder and president of Bad Boy Entertainment.
Burrowes claims that Janice played a key role in a scheme to force him into signing away his 25% stake in the record label.
Burrowes alleges that he was a victim of a violent encounter with Diddy in 1996, which he says intimidated him into giving up his shares. While Janice was not physically present during the incident, the lawsuit argues that she was aware of it and benefited from it.
According to the lawsuit, Diddy allegedly “stormed into” Burrowes’ office, “made threatening statements while erratically wielding a baseball bat.”
Burrowes claims he was handed a contract he had never seen before and, fearing for his life, signed it without reading the terms. The contract, Burrowes later discovered, transferred his shares to Janice Combs, making her the primary shareholder of Bad Boy Entertainment. The lawsuit states that Janice then took control of all of Burrowes’ compensation, benefits, and intellectual property.
Janice Combs is accused of fraud, fraudulent concealment, unjust enrichment, deceptive business practices, conversion, and civil conspiracy.
Burrowes also describes the emotional toll the alleged incident took on him, noting that before it occurred, he had a close, personal relationship with the Combs family, even serving as the godfather to Diddy’s son, Justin. The fallout from the incident left him deeply wounded, and Burrowes claims it eventually led to periods of homelessness, living in shelters across New York City.
Prior to this lawsuit, Burrowes had attempted to take legal action against Sean Combs on multiple occasions, including in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, the Second Circuit Court of Appeal, and the New York Supreme Court. However, his previous attempts were unsuccessful, due to issues related to time constraints and legal standing. This new lawsuit shifts the focus to Janice Combs, rather than Diddy himself.
Though Diddy has previously denied allegations of misconduct in other pending legal cases, he is not named as a direct party in this civil lawsuit.
