Meghan Markle has appeared on the Drew Barrymore Show where she opened up about her relationship with Prince Harry and shared motherhood tips – but not everyone is buying it
Meghan Markle appeared on the Drew Barrymore show today in what was her first interview since slowly retreating from public view. The actor shared her parenting hacks and gushed over husband, Prince Harry.
After parting ways with the royal family, Meghan Markle, 43, has tried on many hats, but this time we see her starring in her own Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, which sees her take on the role of a hostess and housewife. Just days since its release, the show has received heaps of criticism, as does anything the duchess seems to touch.
Amid viewers’ outrage at her simple attempts and adding personal touches to an event or meal in her home, the ex-royal is marking the occasion with an interview alongside actress and host Drew Barrymore. The show teased a few clips online, letting viewers see what’s in store for the rare ‘unscripted’ insight into Meghan’s life.
One clip shows Meghan gushing over Prince Harry, who she married in 2018, lovingly referring to him, without the royal titles, as “H”. She starts by saying, “Life is full of surprises. I did not expect to meet H and for this to be our love story, and I am very lucky.”
Meghan smiles as she boasts about her romance with Harry after seven years of marriage. She went on to explain that she feels like she is married to “the funniest, sweetest, most charming; I mean, he’s all the things that you’re describing”, she tells Drew, adding that he’s an “amazing father”, which received a round of applause.
Now notably known as an Essex, Meghan went on to recall a time that she was nannying in college for two Irish Catholic families, which she felt was important to mention, when the father of the children gave her a piece of advice for her love life.
She reminisced, “I want him to say to you the same thing I said to my wife when we got married, which is, ‘I vow to always date my wife.”
The duchess explained that she told Harry this in the early stages of their romance, and she claimed that he vowed to do the same thing to her. Explaining their connection, Meghan said that the two are “so committed to treating each other the same way we did before putting a ring on it”.
Alongside sharing the behind-the-scenes of her relationship, Meghan opened up about her unusual parenting hack for when she’s away from her children.
She boasted: “I always make it a point when I’m travelling, if I can’t do bedtime stories with my kids, because Archie and Lily are just three and five, I’ll always pack a really thin book.”
Then, what Meghan said she likes to do is “videotape herself reading it”, so that whoever’s with them can say, “Here’s Mama reading you a bedtime story.” Seemingly, the Suits star goes out of her way to pay extra attention to her little ones in what she calls “showing up for them”, but viewers just aren’t buying it.
One user commented on a clip of the show saying, “Top ten things that don’t happen.” While another chimed in: “She always comes across as so inauthentic to me, or maybe it’s just that she has an annoying quality about her. I can’t pinpoint it.”
Her new lifestyle series seems to be having similar feedback, with an overall current rating, as of March 6, of 18% on the review site Rotten Tomatoes. One review claims that the show is a “smug, self-congratulatory bore”, while another suggests it’s quite simply “awful”.
